I don't think it's convoluted at all, a lot of the "mysteries" people are fixating over are just appendixes to the bigger narrative deadlocks.
Take the Roaring Knight knighting Kris for example, sure it begs a why, that would be a mystery if Chapter 3 was released alone, but we get more of it on Chapter 4, and it's revealed that Kris is indeed working with Roaring Knight so that's a loose end tied up.
Toby has been planning this game for over 10 years, I'm absolutely certain that he has accounted for everything plot wise.

Chapter 3 and 4 just weren't nearly as polished 2 I'm afraid. From the gameplay to the characters, chapter 2 feels like a full game on its own whereas 3 and 4 feel like demos.

Basically it's the whole life/death creation/destruction thing, the Titans destroy but they're also new life, a world that never changes is stagnant, things change and people have to change with it. What we did get was more setup, we saw the Knight, a Titan, the Prophecy, that Asgore is involved, we saw Carol, we saw that Kris is fully working with the enemy, we got a scant few more details on the incident that happened, and the party got an actual goal with getting into the bunker.
We're reaching the end of rising action and drifting into actual climax territory now with chapters 5/6/7/whatever.

He's going to introduce new rules and new twists as well as new characters that will put the whole story into a new context that we couldn't have guessed yet. There's a reason the monster in the librarby blocks you from reading about soul lore and very gradually moves out of the way between chapters.

I don't think the wrap-up will be as interesting as all the speculation that's happening right now. The point of the game is to play it now, and enjoy these years of letting our imaginations run wild with what could be.
