I really hope is a new IP. I like Xenoblade but I'm getting a little burned out by the series. Or at least if it's going to be Xenoblade I hope it's a new concept and some reboot, maybe a new battle system.

Same. I felt excited by Xenoblade when it began but it's been 15 years of just Xenoblade following a similar formula. 3 is where it started to get a bit stale for me but I think the old dated hardware of Switch didn't help in that regard either.

A new battle system would be cool as I feel like I've had my fill of the MMO style of Xenoblade games and I feel like it's played out by now and been taken as far as it can go. It doesn't excite me as much as it used to.

I think it'll be a new direction for the series and a fresh start since new concepts seems to be a thing Nintendo is doing with Switch 2 software.

Monolith found its new success with Xenoblade 2.

Since then their games have failed to meet the sales of 2 and it feels like they've reached their sales ceiling and keep selling to the same people every game.

Now they're probably gonna be looking to try something a bit different with the next Xenoblade or a new IP to try capture a new audience and more gamers and find their next success. Im looking forward to it.

You're really naive if you honestly believe a developer under Nintendo making its own games with their own identity simply do not want more people playing their games and do not actively seek to attract new players.

Absolutely naive and hilarious.

Xeno 2 being so anime tropey helps a lot so you don't realize the entire franchise kinda just is a retelling of the same story again and again.
The comedy is just way, way more fundamental to 2, it being so silly balances it being so tragic. while 1 and 3 are kinda more tonally coherent, not so many peaks and valleys of tone shifts.

3 should have the coolest enviroments on the franchise because it should be a "Best hits" of 1 and 2, it has no right being that mediocre when 2 is so beautiful and varied, (1 is Ok but you kinda get bored of how simillar everything is at Mechonis)

I’m more curious about the art direction/art style they’re going with.

Switch 2 is fully capable of realistic looking games, realistic character models. I feel like Monolith were trying to make realistic looking games but pivot to anime aesthetic in the Switch era due to hardware limitations and X’s failure on the Wii U.

I wonder what they’re going to go with. There’s no hardware cap on models and polygons anymore essentially. Keep in mind, they said Saito is not a permanent character designer and that they’re still looking a designer that can give them a monolith soft “look” (unique industry identifier look to their games).

Wii was even more power constrained and was arguably going for a more "realistic" art style. I think they went anime because they wanted to go anime. Xenoblade X DE leans into it more too. Plus their anime shading tech is some of the best in the business. Xenoblade 3 had fantastic character rendering, in particular they did an amazing job with lighting.

They should have went full anime with X since they had Tanaka at his full power as a character designer doing his thing. They didn't have the skills, so they gave him potato faces instead, and then they all got traumatized by the reaction to it. Getting Saito on board was because they were impressed with how well Expelled From Paradise looked and animated. And thanks to him, they improved big time with facial animation and character animation in general. 3 was amazingly animated and looked just about perfect.

I think modern gachas have come close-ish. But I'd only put Zenless Zone Zero as the lone gold standard now for anime vidya at the moment.

They will fail, over and over again, because ultimately no one really cares about them and the games they make. They found the right audience, the should have realized that and scaled back on production. Instead, they will increase, shift focus, destroy designs, start having more trouble hitting deadlines, make excuses to Nintendo. Then Nintendo gets mad, starts gutting company and Monolith Soft doesn't exist in the next 10 years, Takahashi feels betrayed again and retires. This happens every single time with this guy and you would think he would learn by now.

I dont think they'll use Saito this time. I think whatever it is they're making they'll want to differentiate it visually from the Switch trilogy.

It'll denote a fresh start and new direction for Xenoblade. Or a new IP

What are you on about? He's fine. They've opened an R&D department in the last few years and have used it to improve their dev efficiency and tech. Monolith and Takahashi have already taken their next steps and he's already directing a new game for a while now.

They would be shooting themselves in the foot. Like it or not, Saito's designs are what made the company. It doesn't matter if it's mech or character, going for anyone else is not only asking for already established players to spit in your eye, but you are taking a big chance on other designers not meshing with the style of game you want.

I'll see you in ten years when Takahashi tried to make Xenoblade 4 (it totally doesn't have anything to do with the last games, really this time) with the main character being a whiny bitch and everyone having "sensible" designs and it became the worst selling of the bunch.

Nah Monolith fans are dedicated enough that they'll still be interested in their new game whether Saito is a part of it or not. You're overinflating his importance. Nobody cared about him not being a part of Xenoblade X. Nobody gave a fuck.

>you are taking a big chance on other designers not meshing with the style of game you want

That'll all be talked about and decided in pre-production. What arr you on about pal

SE has a major spiteboner for Takahashi for some reason. It's been over a quarter century since he left them. You'd think the suits he pissed off would have mellowed out or died by now.

Oh, I forgot one more thing. They seriously need to ditch the MMO combat for good. Looking at Xenoblade 3 combat animations and they look so good and high quality, but they’re stuck in this dated combat system.

Monolith Soft did a little technical article about the new software techniques they're using at the studio.
They're using Houdini to generate geometry on a massive scale without the need to manually designing large scenes by hand. They showed off generative creation of terrain detail as well as a cityscape.
I expect whatever games they've been working on will have a gigantic shift in sense of scale compared to their existing games (which already have an amazing sense of scale).

Exactly. They also mentioned how this new efficiency in the creation of the world allows them to focus more on developing the gameplay. I expect new gameplay style in the form of a new battle system and other nuances.

You always get the retards who are bizarrely emotionally attached to the MMO gameplay in Xenoblade. It's so fucking weird kek.

I'm talking about a hypothetical new IP that's aiming to be more mainstream.
Xenoblade 4 will probably continue building on the previous games. At least I hope so
