What's your favorite episode of Ross's Game Dungeon and why?
the one where he ignores game mechanics and starts cheating because the game is "bullshit"
the Sonic one or Armed and Delirious, classics
>>712976083 Armed and Delirious is peak Game Dungeon. The way Ross tries to piece together whatever the hell that fever dream of a game was had me in tears. It felt less like a review and more like watching a man slowly lose his grip on reality, and I respected him more for sticking through to the end. That grandma is an agent of chaos. Sonic's a solid pick too, but nothing tops sheer bewilderment like A&D.
The Fahrenheit one was good if only for the moment the game goes off the rails and the main character becomes Superman.
>>712977763yeah I watch it every year, it's extremely comfy watching it in bed on a cold winter's night. And even better that it's a two-parter.
on the topic of other comfy reviews:
>anonymous agony by mandalore gaming
>xenogears by majuular
>legend of dragoon by majuular
>lost odyssey by majuular
any others?
>>712978568>ocarina of time by running shine
>>712977763This. I love most and they're comfy but this one has a special degree of comfy-factor to it.
Probably Vail of Darkness for me
>>712978069Its genuinely amusing watching him try his hardest to sabotage the hunt for Lucas on the cop side only to be pissed off by the discovery that no matter how badly Carla and Tyler do the plot still just hands them Lucas' identity at a certain point anyway
>>712975729 (OP)As long as he doesn't try to actually critique game mechanics or try and frame personal preferences as unforgivable objective flaws then he's pretty comfy viewing.
So like any of his weird Adventure game ones. That German one where you play as probably one of the most cucked vidya protags is really great.
>>712975729 (OP)one where talks about game instead of malding over politicians not giving two fucks about video games
The Crew
I don't like racers but the video is immensely comfy
>>712978568Fucking anything made by Majuular, I know it's corny but I cried at the end of his Ultima 4 video because I so immersed in the story and had never played Ultima 4 before.
>>712977763Watching that one genuinely makes me feel queezy, like I'm car sick, I don't know what it is about it.
realms of haunting, the game is interesting, he has some interesting factoids and its overall good
everything after 2022 starts feeling more and more forced and just bad overall, stopped watching him entirely
he turned from a whacko video game enthusiast with a funny voice into this completely toothless uncharismatic video game conspiracy-esque character who, even though is technically right in many aspects, comes across like this endless whiner, he's just not a good public speaker. I want him to be Alex Jones but instead he's the stupid university student gluing his hand onto a street intersection
>>712979812ill have to give that one a watch, I could never really get into his ultima videos. I can see that another one's just come out
>>712975729 (OP)I love the video about Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy. Might be because of the insanity of the game.
>>712980043I'm watching that one as I type this. It's good so far. I do highly recommend watching them, he goes into autistic detail about the development and the game almost to the point it's a playthrough.

I wish he'd go back and do more surreal games
He complains about being unable to find any more Christmas-themed games, but he still hasn't done the biggest one I know of
Could be amusing watching him take on a Banham game
>Ross play episode 1 of Life is Strange
>immediately accidentally guesses the final dilemma of the game
Kinda wish he would play the whole game just for his reaction to it.
I still don't get why Ross has such a intense aversion to turn based games and a love for mediocre, mindless action RPGs. He's really missing out
Has he finished THE MOVIE yet?
>>712979731This.
It helps that he seems to like the game and enjoys the sightseeing aspect of it.
Too bad TC2 and Motorfest lost all that charm.
>>712981278>Too bad TC2 and Motorfest lost all that charm. How so?
>>712975851Always saddens me when I see a video turn to this. Especially when he has no problem completing other hard games. Death Road to Canada was a smaller one but still kinda felt weird.
>>712979838Same here. I've rewatched all his videos a lot of times. But not that one. It makes uncomfortable for some reason
>>712980296SWEET LAND OF LIBERTY
>>712980312Step aside alien. Earth for earthlings
Phantasmagoria 2 is by far my fav

Honorable mention: Quarantine. Quintessential Ross type game
>>712980312>Conquest EarthMan, is this the worst rts ever or what? It looks like it.
>>712983501What, you don't like using anti gas troopers to remove gas one square at a time?
>>712983775See this the kind of baffling experimental shit I don't think you see anymore in games. The devs really said "what if fog of war was an actually fog?" And just went with it.
If only he sticked to video games instead wasting time on shit. He has also become jaded over the year and he looks more and more as an incompetent boomer who screams at video games and then starts cheating
>>712985083Gamers are dogs and trying to uplift them has taken its toll on him.
daemonica
>"looking for herbs?"
>"well there aren't any... i already got 'em."
His black mirror review, while not his funniest, is one of the comfiest videos on the net. Always come back to that one. Sonic Heroes is one i find very funny, just the way he describes sonic and his tastes in it are very weird as hell.
>>712986313I find the Daemonica vid pretty boring since he's pretty much just reading what's happening in a text-based RPG
Why aren't eceleb threads STILL not considered a bannable offense?
So, given the opportunity of this thread because a new one would be a joke, what other youtubers make interesting videos? Preferrably for PC games as I'm really not interested in watching old ps1 game reviews

Find it funny some of these guys who have existed for like 6 years or more, not hearing about them and then YT dumps their channels in my face. Like I had zero idea who grim was, then his vids just started appearing.
>>712975729 (OP)I like all of them, but I lean more towards the ones about games I'd never heard of or played. Almost everything said or hinted at about Realms of the Haunting was fascinating to me because of that instead of expected. Same with Maabus.

Currently rewatching everything, probably for the 5th time, Outrun Clones being the latest
SiN, The Crew, Messiah, The Black Mirror, Hinterland, Requital, Dungeon Siege, Baldies, Contraption Zack, Polaris Snocross, Trackmania, Killing Time and Gothic are all kino.
I've never watched Cyril Cyberpunk as Moon Gaming is dry as fuck, has anyone actually ever finished the three episodes?
>YouTube video
>>>>The individual speaking to you is some version of a static snarky, smug arms-crossed one dimensional cartoon character, bonus points if it's a furry
This is FAR too common. They should all be killed.
>>712987935I always skipped that too since it just looks like a big interview with some boring whosit
>>712987740It's because he takes so long between uploads sine he's kind of a perfectionist/autistic. The stop killing games thing really didn't help him either, since it caused him to space out his uploads even more.
>>712987935>I've never watched Cyril Cyberpunk as Moon Gaming is dry as fuck, has anyone actually ever finished the three episodes?I did back when it first came out. It is pretty dry from start to finish. Ross works best with a script or like with Carnevil where he can just go off on a tangent without worrying about having an actual conversation with someone.

>>712988936I don't know what makes that video so relaxing but I agree. For a while youtube kept recommending me the video on a loop. And I watched it every time.
>>712978568I do like the reviews of Atrox, Army of Exigo and No Man's Land by Aztekhem. Likely his best reviews. Overall I would like to see more reviews of obscure rts games.
>>712978568I came across some femoid that makes pretty comfy reviews, her name is Earlybird. My favorite is her Harvester video. Goes into more detail than Majulaar's video. Does a lot of horror games.
>>712975729 (OP)Sonic Heroes because it felt like he was actually attempting to branch out for once.
It boggles my mind that Ross still refuses to do more videos on Japanese games.
>>712989142He hates anime.
>>712989169He did a video on that rpg maker corpo horror game.
>>712989074I rewatch that one and Black Mirror every Halloween (and several times every year). Veil of Darkness in general has a really neat general premise, I have no idea how some indie dev hasn't ripped it off wholesale and made it a horror survival game with the jank polished up or something.
>>712989225This is exactly why I said he dislikes the anime.
My favorite for sure is either Black Mirror or Dungeon Siege, but really any video where Ross obviously enjoys the game a lot and shoots out game ideas he'd love to see realized.
>>712987935>5thHonestly I don't even know anymore how many times I've gone through the Game Dungeon, its my go to everytime when I want something in the background
Ross just makes everything seem okay.
The only video that snaps me out of it is Boppin' because a second person, in this case Tom from Weird Videogames, breaks the spell I seem to fall under when watching Ross videos. It's like those cobra masters using two sticks to "hypnotize" the cobra, it just doesn't seem to work.
One that I've been rewatching was Legends of Kyrandia 2. I hope he does more point and click games, his humor works really well with those without having some DSP tier moment or technical issue that he thinks is part of the game.
>>712989525>Honestly I don't even know anymore how many times I've gone through the Game DungeonSame here
>>712989525Game Dungeon and RLM
nothing else hits the same, every other content creator seems to be incredibly infantile, I used to love JonTron videos, but looking back, they're short, 10-15 minutes and incredibly ADHD
>>712989785Jon's videos have aged like milk for the most part. Outside of the few episodes where he goes full schizo (Nightshade, Monster Party, Apples and Grapes) they're just not that funny on rewatches and are mostly him making stupid faces
the one where's he's not bitching about end of service
>>712989525I do the same for Game Dungeon and Freeman's Mind 1. It's a shame he couldn't make it work with 2 but the game just didn't allow for those videos to work.
>>712989967Has he officially canned freemans mind?
>>712990063No, but the last episode is now over a year old
>>712990063I don't think so but I'm sure he has realized how much that game fights him at every step. The last few videos he's either just screaming at shit, trying his best to go against the story or having to mod the game to take out the video game logic moments.
Idk who Ross game dungeon is. Im too old for this shit. Probably another streamer.
>>712990331Just look him up on youtube and watch him for a few minutes.
>Still no good EYE Divine Cybermancy video that completely encapsulates what the game has to offer
>Mandalore said that he wanted to remake his old one like two years ago, but then he got distracted by the hunting games and fucking Garten of Banban (it was kino but still)

>favorite episodeTest Drive 3 will always be kino to me
also ross scott is /ourautist/, but jannies always delete his threads
>>712991020To be fair to Ross he never looks up how to play games properly, only using a walkthrough if he gets stuck and can't progress.
>>712987483He did that years ago and immediately apologized for it. The fact that you're still chastising him about it all this time later says a lot more about you than it does him.
>>712979731This, Trackmania Squared and Test Drive 3: Passion of the Test Drive. Any video where the game is mostly in the background and Ross goes off on various tangents is top tier. Racing games seem to lend themselves to that very well
>>712991875Nta but still, a rape accusation is not something you should go "oopsie, no harm no foul, right?" Did he take down that video or something? I never bothered to follow up on that since >internet drama

>>712992386Could've sworn I had seen a video on his channel about it but maybe I'm just misremembering. Maybe it was some other channel talking about it.
>>712987740He's gotten much worse over the years as he went from "Let me tell you my headcanon about this old game" to "I'm gonna read the text on screen and be dense about basic game contrivances".
His schedule got slower and slower, the long form videos aren't an improvement, and his game picks have gotten stinkier.
>>712986789Merry Bytes is a pretty good under-the-radar channel. I discovered him through his review of Shadowflare (Japanese Diablo 2), since he was the only guy on YouTube to ever talk about it.
>>712992640>his game picks have gotten stinkierI think this explains all of it, honestly. Almost all of the good videos are on games he's already played (at least partially), and so he returns to them because they stuck with him for some reason. That reason then turns into the meat of the video. The bad videos are about games he's never played before, and so he basically ends up doing a blow-by-blow. What makes his videos fun are his unique personality, which doesn't have a chance to shine when he's just listing off what happens
>>712975729 (OP)His Gothic episode is one of the funniest fucking things I've ever seen on Youtube. I will never take his opinion or word on anything after, but boy, what a hoot. He's astronomically retarded.
>>712993459Also, I appreciate his "initiative", but being an absolute brainlet has killed any chance of it doing well
>champions the entire thing over a game no one played>is the living avatar of everything surface level Euros hate about Americans>got DEBOONKED by that piRAT fuck I don't think he could have made a more incompetent attempt honestly. Just too naรฏve, too impatient, too uneducated, and too crass.
>>712993459Ross is high IQ and why he is very critical of everything
High IQ people have standards. Before /v/ mods purged all the PC gamers with all their bans and also making /vg/ and /vr/ a containment board ofr high IQ individuals, /v/ was actually one of the most interesting and highest IQ places on the entire internet
It is where intelligent people came to discuss their hobbies and shit on casuals, and also share great games that nobody was talking about
Neo-/v/ is so bad I only open it once a day to keep up with news, and I'm only here now because there was a ross scott thread. Everything else is a casual low IQ thread

>>712995295Made good points about how shallow the story and aug-panic is too

>>712978568fuck off majuular
>>712986789I know everyone shits on the "4 hour game retrospective" meme format, but Jwlar does some good ones. It probably helps he actually writes it properly as an essay before turning it into a video, rather just rambling on as some stream of consciousness.
>points out new stuff that no one ever touched on in a really famous old game, even when there's 1000 reviews of it
this is why i love ross, he actually has something to say in his review, if i ever had to recommend a video of ross for someone to see, its his deus ex review

The important thing is that there needs to be some kind of interesting angle the game can be approached from. Ross is really good at exploring and questioning a game world as if it were a real space, or to just look at mundane details and then make them into interesting avenues of thought. His reviews are great because they are truly unique, but some games just allow for more of that

>>713000678HR bros, our response??
>>713000896True. I like the game and I think he goes into some odd autistic rant with the fashion but the writing is 99% augs and far more judgmental with "this is the correct choice and this is the wrong choice" like when he talks about the cops all unanimously hating Adam for shooting the guy holding a gun to a hostage. Yeah, really something cops would do.
I love it when Ross makes infographics like this one. The top one is basically the plot structure of KOTOR and KOTOR2, both great games but I can understand why this illusion of choice is annoying to someone like Ross. The bottom one is what he and I wish more RPGs could be like, but I understand why that doesn't happen, because by the time you get into the last branch of paths you're in a completely different game that needs it's own set of assets. The bottom graph is basically EIGHT games in one.
>>713002269And another graph he made that I thought was worth screencaping. I wish more movie-based games would strive to be in this middle section.
>>713002269Take the interactive fiction/CYOA/VN pill anon. Text-based games are the only ones without the baggage to pull off actual choice and consequence.
>>713001551How can you call a fashion-show parody bit an autistic rant?
>>713002269i like how witcher 2 did it, best game in the series for me, witcher 3 is very overhyped and ciri is a mary sue
>>713002269>>713002269The bottom is Shadow the Hedgehog.
>>713002464I remember playing one or two text games back in the day, I remember thinking they were interesting but frustrating mostly because I could figure out what needed to be done but was searching for just the right phrasing the game was looking for. As I went through a phase of watching streamers have fun with Seirra games even though I never played them myself.
Are there any text games that have KOTOR-esque dialogue trees, characters you care about, and interesting fantasy/sci-fi worlds to explore?
>>713002394>>713002269i love ross because he's literally me, these are all my taste too, i also take some games from his BIG GAME LIST, did not disappoint
>>713002739In Shadow the level web all connects together, they don't lead to distinct "paths" until the very end. In that anon's pic related each choice leads to a completely bespoke pathway that never intersects with the previous options.

>>712995494He has the advantage in that he only reviews games that are ancient.
If you're a topical video game channel, and you take a week to get a BG3 video out at release instead of having something out day one or two, there goes a few hundred thousand views at least.
>>713002862>Are there any text games that have KOTOR-esque dialogue trees, characters you care about, and interesting fantasy/sci-fi worlds to explore? Most text-based that aren't literal dating sims aren't usually as character-driven as something like Kotor, unfortunately. I can give you some of my favorites but honestly no game has ever gotten it right. I just think text-based stuff is in a better position to reach that goal, since it isn't weighed down by the exponential cost of grafix and voice acting. As for actual full fat vidya I think Alpha Protocol or Age of Decadence are the closest we've got, which you might have already played.
>>713003595Let me add Space Wreck to that list. It's jank as fuck but of what little I played it seems an honest attempt at giving you a boatload of bespoke choice paths.
>>713003541>He has the advantage in that he only reviews games that are ancient.he never said that, and he reviews current games
>>713003348>"gameplay" is just clicking the mouse button to advance dialogueNot necessarily. Roadwarden, Sorcery!, Fabled Lands, etc.
>game incenctivizes you to collect all the endings anyway, so choices and consequences aren't really impactful in the grand scheme of thingsHow are you supposed to communicate that choices have meaning without demonstrating that alternate pathways exist? >>713011437Yeah maybe this is an unpopular opinion but I feel like Buster is sort of a return to classic Game Dungeon form, like Nyet 3, Bozo's Night Out, Spiderbot, etc. A game that's utterly bizarre that no other YouTuber would ever even think to cover, and isn't even necessarily very good but gives Ross something to ramble about. I actually kind of prefer games like these for his Game Dungeons, as opposed to games like Sabotain where he's just sort of giving a play-by-play of his playthrough. Those aren't even bad per se, they're just not as rewatchable as some of the other classic Game Dungeons.
Black Future '88 is one of the only GDs I'd really consider to be actually so bad as to be unwatchable. It's a perfect storm of a bad game in a genre Ross doesn't like, which is really focused on game mechanics where Ross really prefers games with good stories.

He will outright impose preconceived notions on how a given game should work and will refuse to engage with any mechanic that doesn't fit that view. "Revenant" is the best example of this, where he complains about things that THE GAME has a solution to. "Dungeon Siege" was another instance of this.
