I don't get it, what's wrong with the game being a "walking simulator"
like imagine having your dopamine receptors fried to such a degree that walking and looking at a beautiful landscape does nothing for you and unless there's action every two minutes you are bored to death
also it's a novel concept and path traversing in games is simply taken for granted while this game makes it challenging until you unlock more efficient methods of transportation
I didn't even play the first game but I just don't get why are people so pissed at it, at least it's something that attempts to be different which is rare in AAA today

If you are going to make a clunky slow shooter you need to design small claustrophobic encounters to complement the sluggishness. That's why RE games work so well. Big open environments and sluggish movement in a shooter looks, feels, and is retarded.

It's a VIDEO GAME, retard. They're meant to be interactive beyond holding the left analog stick forward.
>something different
Movie games are a diamond dozen. Just because it has Kojima attached and is full of nonsensical visuals with undoubtedly unsatisfying narrative logic doesn't suddenly make it okay.

The game would literally be better if they had no combat and had all that extra dev time and budget to further flesh out movement, climbing and traversal. Its even funnier when Kojima recently said he made his game worse to not make everyone happy but overhauls the combat.

>Koji drones can't even agree if Kojima game is good because of walking, or because it's not walking.
or you are too low IQ to understand what is being said. the hiking mechanics are fun and engaging but are not the extent to the gameplay. calling it a "walking simulator" is reductive. technically, yes it is a walking simulator, but that term has negative connotations and people are implying the game isn't anything more than gone home or dear esther when in actuality it is far closer to a real action game with shooting mechanics, driving mechanics, building mechanics, momentum and balance mechanics, and more. it isn't that people are claiming it isn't a walking simulator, people are objecting to the comparison to other games which are little more than digital dioramas. the walking is fun and engaging and there is more to the game than just walking.
also, you can't call me a kojima drone. i am also a metal gear survive defender.

Death Stranding is one of the very very very VERY few games that does it right and even then there's so much going on I'd be more inclined to call it an adventure game, walking sim became a derogatory term a decade ago when a shitload of indie devs burst into the scene with their highly pretentious and boring "games" of you walking around a 3d art gallery and reading paragraphs about how timmy mcfarthuffer went for a walk on the beach it was incredibly lame and gay and I'm glad they've mostly phased out of existence

"walking sim" is a pure 2015 reddit shit meme that 4chan still worships because this website isn't good at hiding that it's just pre 2020 reddit.

What most people call walking sims are just what adventure games have become. Death Stranding, Hellblade, Dear Esther and stuff like Firewatch and Life is Strange, they are all the modern day direct equivalents of games like King Quest, Monkey Island, etc. Games that focus on graphics, story and cinematic stuff instead of gameplay have existed since the dawn of the fucking arcade machine and people complaining about their very existence are really just unvailing how young and barely developed their brains are.

These are all adventure games, and adventure games have always been like this with a direct or overt focus on a gameplay loop. Nobody complained you weren't getting high scores by killing hundreds of pirates in Monkey Island.

the one downside of sony no longer owning the franchise is that I'm not sure Kojima will be able to have the help of other sony studios (a LOT of them worked on the original game and probably same for the sequel) and the Decima engine (which is owned by Sony)
OD already is switching to Unreal

>Combat against BTs, meanwhile, is more active this time. The previously invisible enemies are more visible now, not to mention the new Watcher type that can properly see Sam rather than sense him, resulting in some tense sneaking. And with plenty of weapon types to retaliate with, BT encounters are no longer a tedious lesson in holding your breath but shootouts against nightmarish visions.

Nah that's bullshit bud, Kojima didn't add him because people complained about not enough humor, that's complete nonsense.
>In Death Stranding 2, Hideo Kojima added the character Dollman, also known as The Living Doll, to represent a desire for connection and to explore themes of isolation and the human experience, particularly in the context of the pandemic. The character is inspired by Bunraku puppets and the director Fatih Akin, who asked Kojima to include him in the game.

every gun gets a non-lethal variant as well as anti-BT weaponry so you could always use guns
not only guns but also fists, dropkicks, rope to parry and tie people up, electrified gloves to punch harder, cargo cases can be thrown, all sorts of grenades, decoys, even the catapult can be used against enemies

anything can be a weapon in Death Stranding, vehicles too. At worst you ride to a tar lake to dispose of them or leave them at distro center which docks a few likes.

Because the BTs can just shoot them down easily with their black goo cum. It's why they prefer human porters assisted by technology for the most part.

It is. A common complaint on release was that the game lacks detail compared to Metal Gear but after years of playing it I can say that it is simply not true.

Sam has a button dedicated just to saying random things and you can use it anytime. He makes fun of the ending credits, taunts enemies, responds to online porters, talks to NPC porters, sings along with NPCs in the ponds. You can get your ear bitten off in the Higgs fight and it stays that way forever. There is just so much to discover. This game was made in 3 years and Kojima put so much heart into it.

All I want is a system that automatically takes care of people I kill.

I don't want to be forced to be non-lethal. I want to be able to kill and clear out mule camps. A system in which I can call some robot dots or drones or something to come collect the bodies and incinerate them for me, and I can completely clear out a MULE camp so they don't respawn for a long time, that would be nice.

Same goes for BTs. I want to clear out the places they spawn permanently and cleanse it so they don't respawn, maybe make it a more difficult task to do, something you need to prepare for with a tougher boss fight, but let me at least try to kill them so I can then drive through a zone without getting pulled out of the car and dragged off to a boss fight I have no desire to do for the 10th time.

I mean I honestly never tested anything lethal when I played the first game, because the game told you over and over again if you kill someone they will explode, so I just only used non-lethal, but I also recently learned that if you do kill someone you just get a bunch of radio chatter and a game over screen eventually, but then you can just reload a checkpoint and continue on so it didn't really matter if you did kill people.

I wish Death Stranding had a cargo difficulty setting. Setting it to very hard would make cargo more sensitive to timefall, packages would not only break more easily but your score would absolutely tank if the condition of the items were below 90% health, even things like cargo package health heavily playing into your score, making things like the cargo repair spray absolutely necessary for S ranks and stuff, that or just jumping for cover immediately as soon as it starts raining.

and it would also impact things like how long your boots lasted, your actual equipment would take damage during timefall, so boots would degrade very quickly when running around in the rain. Also way more missions like the pizza ones where it matters how you physically interact with the packages, like forcing you to hold them a certain way.

Am I the only one or would this be super fun? I would love to be playing and be forced to actually think about all this stuff

Nah it's a Dark Souls situation. A difficulty setting would just make the game worse since it's a carefully balanced and fine tuned experience. There are times when difficulty should be customizable, this is not one of them. You already have somewhat difficulty by simply choosing to not care as much about the scoring. That's your difficulty.

Now if you want to say that there should be more harder deliveries cause the ones we have are too easy then honestly yeah I'd agree with you. The best deliveries in DS1 are the pizza ones cause they're fucking arduous.

the game already has a difficulty setting though. I'm just asking for a more fine tuned one. The difficulty setting as it stands already does impact stuff like how long structures last but its not really nearly punishing enough at very hard

Bridges, ziplines, vehicles, various exoskeletons that one has to juggle depending on environmental circumstances, varying terrain conditions (snow, slopes, etc.), of course the constant need to balance depending on cargo config, constantly degrading status meters (Samโ€™s stamina, BBโ€™s condition, cargo condition). Ironically, it's the terminally online jeets who are trying to convince you that yellow paint in games is "a good thing," and they do it for free.

>>713030390
I have never seen a single pajeet defend the use of yellow paint. Probably because they're too busy raping their 5 year old cousins and eating cow poo to even give a shit about any of this. And if there are actually some of them defending it, I can guarantee there would be more of them being against yellow paint since they would be a part of the neurotic hivemind known as 'gamers'.

Nope. I didn't say anything about getting rid of cutscenes entirely. I just said Kojima is dogshit at making cutscenes because they are incredibly uninteresting while being an average of 20 minutes. Everything interesting happens in the gameplay. The characters are mediocre at best, that's it.

I want to tap in Kojima's gameplay mechanics, feeling a thirst for it, but I don't know if I install Death Stranding or MGSV. I want DS because of the comfy atmosphesre and going something an anon mentioned here a few days ago: raid MULE camps and give their loot to postal box to whoever may need in the network. Dunno about MGSV though, I guess just shoot stuff with real guns.

yeah...I always want to like his cutscenes more than I do. They're incredibly stylish and unique but he rarely lands those easy emotional moments that film has basically perfected.
People tell me I'm just getting filtered but idk...feels like he could do better.
or maybe it's a translation thing. The thing is I generally enjoy japanese cinema and find no problems with cultural differences/translations there.

This is why people hate zoomer scum like you, you know absolutely NOTHING about the development of this game, that this game was made with a skeleton crew barely having an office to work in, his team not familar with a brand new engine yet, they had to learn everything from start. Now that his team knows the engine better DS2 will feature a day & night cycle, weird how that works huh? If I could Thanos snap zoomer trash like you away I'd do it in a heartbeat

>hold both triggers to recover instantly from anything and never fall. The Game
drains your stamina faster, if you are very heavily burdened you still have to lean.
>No a real cycle of day/night in fucking 202x. The Game
not really an issue, this is nitpicking.
>Always online for silly memes and upvotes in the middle of nowhere, The Game
always online is a problem when it comes to DRM, you can still play this game offline.
>Voidouts are very rare and never are a danger for the player. The Game
voidouts are more of a risk to the player if they play aggressively/lethally or do a poor job dealing with BT infested areas. it isn't supposed to be a massive risk to the player, it is supposed to incentivize nonlethal play.

it was the first metal gear game with made up/knock off guns, but the weapons you use would more often than not be something you made after you unlock the gunsmith that is an amalgamation of the best gun parts you have available. really funny, before they patched it and fixed it, people were making rocket launcher pistols.
