death stranding was getting 6.5s on release. people, especially journos, did not like it at first. then, the pandemic happened and the game released on pc. it wasn't until then that everyone began appreciating it. a new perspective formed by forced isolation of lockdowns made people appreciate the plot more, a new perspective that also allowed them to appreciate a game that isn't entirely about shooting and combat. releasing on pc brought the game to a much wider variety of people than just being on ps4. journos also walked back on their scores because it turned out normal people actually liked it and they couldn't come off as tasteless, especially after pushing all the crap they had been pushing for over a decade, they needed to retain some credibility.

This is total cope after DS1 had a mixed reaction. If he actually thought this, he wouldn't sell the game on the likenesses on a bunch of celebrities. Hell, if he was truly confident of his vision, he would shadow direct the game and distant itself from the career of Hideo Kojima, because that's why most people gave it a shot in the first place.
