These places have a history of being anti-Nintendo. It's less a thirdie thing per se and more people outside of Japan and North America which are Nintendo's traditional strongholds. In fact, most of the time you see someone sneering at Nintendo they're Europeans who grew up buying into the Sega and Sony hype, britbongs in particular.

Yeah, it might be. I just checked the JP Direct, and while SOME songs and Pauline's speaking dialogue were Japanese, the opening and ending theme were still English. So it's probably English with Japanese voice direction, hence why it's so off.
