These are the only mainline games that haven't been rereleased with a tack-on story of dubious quality (unless you count IVA, but it's an entirely new game).

While IVA started out as a sort of "IV Maniax", it ended up evolving to be so much more and having an entirely original pseudo-sequel story.

Nocturne is the base game
Nocturne Maniax is a rerelease with bonus content
Nocturne Maniax Chronicle Edition is a rerelease with bonus content
Nocturne HD Remaster is a rerelease with bonus content
Strange Journey is the base game
Strange Journey Redux is an enhanced port with bonus content
V is the base game
V Vengeance is a rerelease with an alternate story path and bonus content

IV is Pokémon Black and White
IV Apocalypse is Pokémon Black 2 and White 2
Strange Journey is Pokémon Diamond and Pearl
Strange Journey Redux is Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl
Nocturne is Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire
Nocturne Maniax is Pokémon Emerald

IVA ruined the story of IV is more so my point. It would have been better off being an actual sequel when it wasn't.

The background lore expansion with Akira, observation, YHVH, etc. is all totally fine, it's mostly stuff that has existed conceptually within the franchise. Having four additional routes taking place within Neutral
>IV (Nothing)
>IV (Law)
>IV (Chaos)
>IV (Neutral, Nanashi doesn't take Dagda's offer)
>IV (Neutral, Nanashi takes Dagda's offer) > IVA (Law)
>IV (Neutral, Nanashi takes Dagda's offer) > IVA (Chaos)
>IV (Neutral, Nanashi takes Dagda's offer) > IVA (Bonds)
>IV (Neutral, Nanashi takes Dagda's offer) > IVA (Massacre)
is also fine.

But the issue is more the writing of the characters and the tone of the game itself being a huge step down from IV. I don't think it ruins IV like how some people may argue that other rereleases ruin the narratives of their original games, because all of IV's original endings still exist.

IV had its superbosses as DLC, all lore-heavy superbosses, including Masakado. And they were on-cart DLC, you were paying money to flip a bit.

Observation as a concept has been in Megaten far longer than IVA, it's especially prominent in Persona, but it's also how I had interpreted the presence of demons since before IVA. The makai/demon realm exists as an extension of human consciousness, which is why SMT II has so many pop culture-based demons.

Oh yeah, and of course YHVH in II and his whole "As long as there are people who believe, I will return time and time again" with human genocide being the only way to prevent this. Even if they didn't call it Observation back then, that's straight up how Megaten worked, and IVA is the SMT II to IV's SMT I.

SMT4 needs a proper remake. If they just update few graphics it would be a waste. This game's setting has so much potential. They need to completely overhaul the graphic, fix few story moments, make Isabeau a character instead of a fencesitter, and fix Flynn's atrocious design.

it's more like there's no point to their style without the 3D effect. the games graphics are pretty much designed around them. apocalypse is even worse/better with some animations and everything
>>713068768
IV being a messiah's journey is fine. apocalypse being a more normal story of navigating some shitheap of a conflict is also fine. the only real problem storywise is bonds, and that has to do more with massively cheesy writing than anything.
I do wish a version of IV with actually good gameplay existed though.

I just meant the visuals in general, not specifically the parts they emphasized to make it pop so to speak. It looks good on the 3DS (I personally don't like it though), but I highly doubt it'll stand on it's own unlike how MH Stories or GU did with their ports. At the very least it won't add anything, whereas with other titles you're grateful you can actually see stuff clearly.

The nintentard SMT games were a mistake
Now years later there are no real ways to play all the things stuck on that piece of shit especially IV and strange journey minus emulation
Just give a half ass port of it on steam or literally anything

Vanilla had like 4-6 decent battle OST, the rest were completely repetitive. Meanwhile every single track in Vengeance is atleast decent. Few of my favourites

Most of the tracks in VV don't even fit the situation though, the ones like the Qadistu and Tiamat are rare. Meanwhile they're all memorable in their usage for the base game, even if they're not that great as standalone tracks.

How reliant was it on the 3DS as a system? It's possible they'd pretty much have to remake it to get rid of any 3DS gimmicks.
