It's the same reason why Super Saiyan / Ultra Instinct are so cool. Goku is normally such an expressive joviable guy that seeing him "get serious" is more powerful by juxtaposition.

It may not make it woke, but it depending on how much it changes it does beg the question, "Why wasn't this a new IP so it would not be weighed down by inappropriate franchise baggage and could introduce even more new ideas?" So, it might not be woke, but it is probably still lazy and overly safe, and thus a worse product than it could be all because shitty executives and board members want to maximize short term gains over potential long term gains, a new franchise, new customers, and customer satisfaction.

This game looks to cartoon-i to me it doesn't even feel like DK to me.
