Finally some good fucking gameplay.

I only felt sad because I hoped it would be a return to the good FFs (1-9 and arguably 10 11 and 14) instead we got some GoT meh fantasy that's not much better than the mediocre dogshit we've been having since 12 / 13.

It's the same game engine as FF14 but modified.
Think of like the Creation engine that Bethesda use which is a modified version of Gamebryo engine.
It's an iteration and because of that it's also mired with the same flaws and limitations as the FF14 engine

Do you have the link? Because I remember watching a dev interview given by Naoki Yoshia on the pitch he gave to the board on how he convinced them to allow Creative Studio 3 previously Creative Business Unit 3, to develop FF16 was the cost and development experience they had using FF14's engine they could repurpose and modified and not have to retrain on a new game engine.
I mean anecdotally if you're experienced with both games you can see similar design in the maps, in the npc design, in the animations, in the UI.

I've played every numbered DQ and most of the spinoffs and I don't get the little bit of bitching I see about DQXI. Yeah, recycling the world for each act, whatever, but the core gameplay of DQ has held steady for nearly 40 years now so at least it feels like the same series.

Like arent they the biggest rpg from japs? Why the fuck doesnt desert town have its own music?
Even snes games gave different themes based on area.
Yet DQ XI just had one overworld theme, battle theme, and town theme that you hear over and over for hours.
Were my expectations too high having played multiple other generic rpgs that did more?
Was my game bugged? It had to be right?

The boss fight against Bahamut and Leviathan is why this game is a 6/10 instead of a 1/10
