>greatest Western vidya composer's career
I was about to agree with you but then I remembered Soule couldn't write a memorable combat music track to save his own life, which is a sin of galactic proportions for the kind of games he used to work on.
That and the fake and gay rape allegations aside, he hasn't written a single soundtrack worth a damn ever since Skyrim and then went on to scam a few hundred people on Kickstarter before disappearing

Uematsu writes bombastic prog pieces and Soule writes orchestral ambient tracks.

Theyโ€™re not even remotely comparable and are both masters of their respective genre of music.

he is kinda bland but if you wanna learn how to make basic vidya soundtracks he is definitely a go-to source for high production value.

his best stuff is probably
>Secret of Evermore
>Neverwinter Nights
>KotoR

Mind you, only SoM is really original work. The others are good because they blend well with the environment they were created for.
KotoR is obviously using lots of star wars motifs and NWN is like the stuff that Michael Hoenig did for BG1/2 except more boring.
It's really not that he is bad or anything, but if you go and listen to his Mists of Pandaria tracks, and put them right next to the stuff that Jason Hayes and Glenn Stafford did, the melodies are just too much by the book.

His actual masterstroke, and the thing that probably landed him a real career, is the use of that fuckin horn in the morrowind soundtrack you hear in literally every other one of his soundtracks from then on.
Some of the Guild Wars 2 tracks aren't too bad either.
He also did Dark Alliance 1/2, which are again pretty good DnD soundtracks.

Anyway,
Frank Klepacki and Uematsu clap his ass out of the bathwater

The early especially because of his range

But Avellone is coming back, I believe he's confirmed in a few project and he also worked on two games since 2020.
There's some arguably worst people including actual terrible bastards who somehow managed to bounce back (including some unrepentant ones), even if it's not as the same level, it's probably possible for someone to keep working

Seriously? Besides maybe 3 tracks most of it sounds like a bunch of NN reject tracks not at all fit to be in a Star Wars game. It might actually be one of his weakest works.

>KotoR

Going by his other work I'd say yes
It's all setting-specific contract work, none of which stands out particularly.
But as far as sci-fi/star wars ambience goes, those tracks are doing a pretty good job.
Could be that I have heard Kotor2 tracks and mixed them into my judgement as well though.

I have only listend to the OST.
I haven't played Kotor.
I thought it was gay.

pic related is another game with a much better sci fi ost
Even the less than successful sequel which continued a lot of the motifs

Then you are far better at being a video game fan than being a music fan.
If I am being generous I will ask you to find 5 composers from video games that can, collectively, match John Williams resume.
You might find one who has had his music played in concerts as much as Williams 10th most popular soundtrack. I doubt it.

The thing is Williams is B tier as a composer.
The next step down from video games is jingles for an advertising agency.

I am dismissive of the work of video game composers because I know enough to be.

The Uematsu style is really something only JRPGs do for the most part. They have to have catchy music because their gameplay loop is pretty simple.

A lot of western games go for ambient tracks because they donโ€™t want the music to distract from other things. Soule is the best at this however, because his songs still manage to be memorable and pleasant to listen to on their own. Oblivion and Skyrim both have some of the best western vidya soundtracks ever.

I think itโ€™s because he also remembers to actually have a melody that people can latch onto as well. Just because youโ€™re writing an ambient piece, doesnโ€™t mean it canโ€™t have a melody, and he understands that.

The best western composers are Souls, Jesper Kyd and Tim Folin. They absolutely destroy every other western composer so hard that it isnโ€™t even funny.

I dont give a fuck. We are talking about composition here.
We are talking about motifs and proper phrasing
We are talking about complexity and range.

Where is John William's Dracon and Maria?
Didn't make an opera?
Well that's too bad.

If you had said Ennio Morricone, maybe I'd have a harder time finding someone, but this way you just revealed yourself to be an immense pleb.

Next you'll say some gay shit like Hans Zimmer
Who is basically just the Jeremy Soule of the movie sphere

get the fuck out and be gay somewhere else

Williams is pretty exceptional as a composer. His work on the Star Wars OT and PT alone is legendary (which is significant, considering George Lucas isnโ€™t a Jew).

Iโ€™ll admit that film composers like Morricone and Francis Lai are better overall, but I wouldnโ€™t throw shade on Williams either.

sure williams is great, but let's be honest:
he's been surfing the same three motifs since the 70s

which ain't really his fault, it's just what he's hired to do all the time, but can you remember a single track from the sequel star wars trilogy?

Maybe rei's theme?
that's basically it

Here is an ironic thing though:
One of the most memorable Disney Slop Star Wars tracks is Krennics Theme.

Which was made by Michael Giacchino
The composer of the original Medal of Honor series.

So here is another example for that gay ass faggot ass bitch ass nigger ass homo anon that was complaining about vidya composers before

The fact you are getting visibly angry shows me calling out your lack of education on this matter stings.
Just stop.

Are there even any modern prolific videogame music composers now? We don't hear about anyone new or upcoming despite them wasting billions of dollars of taxpayers money to make them, which would naturally include the music.
