I used to do annual replays of pokemon sapphire/emerald after OR/AS disappointed me, but I haven't done a playthrough since 2022

Sometimes all the right people just happen to all be in the right place at the right time. Same applies to Chrono Trigger.

thats way too often. I do replays of ff V-X every five years and they still hit like crack everytime. in particular, VII VIII and X age like fine wine

was that the mmo?
I know a shit ton of jrpg fans found female jrpg fans through it. it was THE mmo for the female crowd. other mmos only had weirdo females.

Beautiful game. Very Japanese kinda feelings. Very respectable story. Probably my favorite Final Fantasy.

I played dissidia and was ashamed that one of the characters was an athlete while everyone else came straight out of a fantasy war.
then I played the game. and it brought me to tears. so many tears. thank you tidus I love you all, big tiddy goth mommy specifically.

FFX with a DQ VIII-esque world map, more towns and dungeons wouldve been the GOAT jrpg hands down

as it is however, the lack of exploration keeps it a peg below FFVI/VII/VIII. also the OST is a downgrade from those games as well. shame because in terms of storytelling/characters its easily the best.

A lot of RPGs' problems get fixed when you can play them without load times at 3-4x speed while doing monotonous shit, which can all be done on a calculator in the modern era.

The combat has a surprising amount of depth, and it can get quite fun and complex when you make it your goal to use every character in battles. And it's actually more efficient than grinding.

Great story too, with a ton of detail. Like I just realized both Yuna and Seymour are mixed race.

Easily my favorite JRPG.

I didn't play it like that the first time. I see no reason why getting to the parts of a game you want to get to, upon replaying it, is anywhere close to a bad thing.

That mindset comes from playing retro JRPGs. I wouldn't play earlier FFs without a fast forward either, to be perfectly honest.

ffx? it had some visual shortcomings due to being a vita first release. lots of face and lip and eye animations missing due to not being needed for a tiny screen. but lulu's lulus are now in HD so its overall a better game.

Also I feel dirty playing the remakes with worse graphics

Probably the realest lineup of characters I've experienced in any fantasy setting. If I loaded up this game right now I'd be either physically shaking or gently weeping during the opening when Auron is standing on the building toasting Sin. Same goes for Auron's speech right before the Yunalesca fight. My ex half-hearteded watched me play through it once, constantly complaining that she didn't really get what was going on. She still had a very strong reaction to Yuna's suicide note at the end of Gagazet.
