It was barely a grind. You did some races during the downtime between Grand Prixs or random races or time trials to learn the tracks. Of course now it would be overwhelming to a newcomer but the ideal way was to play it when it was relevant.

I just realized this is the bloodborne of racing games. Except for bloodborne it makes sense, this shit staying console exclusive doesnt make any sense.

The microtransactions were incredibly harmless in this game, the only complaint I had about them was the AI all wearing clownsuits but otherwise I was very happy to accept the cosmetics system in exchange for the post-release grands prix

I never understood the complaints about the MTX in this game. If you weren't an absolute shitter you could very easily unlock everything without any grinding, especially if you were playing when the Grand Prix were being released. Yes, MTX are gay but in this case they were a non factor for me. I unlocked everything I wanted with a lot of coins to spare.

Its a harsh reality of working under Actiblizz. CTR for like 5-6 months goes without MTX and you can unlock everything by playing normally in anyway. You aren't even obligated to unlock EVERYTHING anyways you could be some autist for one character and ignore everything else. Then boom suddenly its MTX for the ingame currency. Its obvious to anyone that they were pressured into it and had to also cut off support early. Lab Assistant had the potential for endless skins as well as other characters.

However I played this game since release up till the last Grand Prix and never had to grind for anything I wanted. I unlocked every character sans a few I didn't give a shit about and a bunch of skins so anyone complaining about the grind in this game was just a last place shitter.

MK8 doesn't have grind because they just sold you things via DLC and (in Deluxe) a season pass. Even then, if you calculate the cost vs how many wumpa coin packs you'd have to buy Nitro Fueled's Grand Prix content, MK8's DLC is WAY cheaper that its not even funny.
