Honestly, what happened to video games with fantastic stories, and romance options like Mass Effect and KOTOR. It just seems like games mostly now are all fucking game play based. I mean I've read visual novels like Fate and Tsukihime and they have more engaging stories then the vast majority of games coming out now. What happened to writing in video games?

I played BG 3, the story was quite good but nothing that really truly had the big impact of something like KOTOR or Mass Effect and the romance was forced I found. Cyberpunk 2077 was pretty good but still not that same kinda, "the choices i make have a huge impact on the world"

You really think KOTOR had a fantastic story? Even Mass Effect is carried by the fact that the Sovereign reveal is cool. Even as someone who played and loved these games when they came out, I feel like you're looking at these stories with nostalgia goggles on.

Yes all those games are good, but look on the horizon, I have seen like zero games in 2025-2026 that have any good stories. I'm just saying that studios seem to not be putting writing at the forefront anymore
