I think Act 3 is the weakest part which is funny because usually the world of ruin part is the best part of every Final Fantasy because you're finally off the rails. But the battle system of E33 I think is actually antithetical to this sort of freedom because there's no planning involved, your strategy for the boss is always parry all the enemy's attacks. It makes Act 3 just feel like a big grind to make your damage output maximum.

Still enjoy the game a lot though, it's a solid game just not a great turn based game.

It's a shame because act 3 gives you the most freedom, the most access to all secrets via flying and the whole thing is really ominous, but the plot twist already hit; cat's out of the bag and it doesn't hit as well as it should going around knowing it's all a lie
I honestly wished that Esquie would make the party escape during the paintress fight. When verso threw the stone that was my first thought. GTFO of here and come back later with another strategy. We could've flown to get stronger or to get a plot item and then come back in act 3

Actually, thinking about it, rather than using as a twist, I think the game would be better if you started with the epilogue scene and where genuinely doing the FFT thing. I think the thing that ultimately breaks E33's narrative is that the fake world feels hollow, you hear about how great it was second hand but you never experience it at all. You're dumped into the world cold but it's already a shit show.

Gustave's death, although I could see it a mile away, hit a lot harder than expected. Felt like the soul of the party was gone from that point, only decent interactions were between verso/monocco/esqiue. I was just out of it for most of act 2 save for the sirene stage which was great
the actual twist did more to destroy the game for me, i've encountered this same twist multiple times from japanese porn games and it's my most hated twist and the message i've read a dozen times across different fiction
had fun with the game itself all throughout until end game, wish i didnt do a bunch of side content before finishing off the main story though

Because the world of FF7 and Disco Elysium serve their main theme. The world of E33 is supposed to be escapism, but escapism to what? There's nothing in the world of the canvas that makes me think "wow this place is great!" Except maybe Esquie being in it.
