Zoomers don't understand this because they literally missed them, but the console wars basically ended in gen 7 when Nintendo very clearly spun off and started doing their own thing. The only real "competition" is between Playstation and Xbox because they share the same space in the market where pretty much all the most played games are exactly the same. Seriously, nobody really in buys these things for their exclusives anymore. And even then, it's not really a competition. Sony more or less "won" the war against Xbox everywhere except for in North America, and Xbox has since even fallen behind significantly there. I'm not even anti-Xbox but it's pretty obvious the only reason they're still around is because Microsoft is a Magnificent-7 stock fortune 100 company and being such the gaming division has access to the infinite money glitch.

I missed the GameCube, Wii and WiiU. I decided I'll just emulate the best of the best. I started with GameCube games but... it felt very cold. Not playing a game when it comes out on that hardware it was designed for just felt wrong for some reason. That was years ago. Millions of people are currently enjoying daily Mario Kart World sessions. On PC, you can pirate 99% of those games back and there's more storefronts than Steam regardless, if you get banned from LoL then nothing happens to your Battlenet, Epic, or Steam games. If you're banned from Xbox, PS5, or Switch 2 then you can't pirate all those games back and if you bought a bunch of Game Key Carts(or the discs equivalents that Sony/Microsoft have) that aren't currently installed then you can't even play the physical games you bought from retail stores.

The entire console being banned is a real issue as every company moves towards making everything go through their storefront. It's not just hacking or cheating, you can be banned because you call someone a fag or retard enough times when you could say those words without issue 10 years ago. Companies can ban you for whatever the fuck they want, giving them literally all the power to brick your purchase is fucking retarded. No one above 80 IQ should be defending that.

Again, blaming thieves and hackers is the equivalent of saying digital ID should be in place to protect kids from seeing porn online. There is more nuance than that when you can get banned because you say a naughty word or even if people report you enough to trigger the auto moderation. An auto mod ban might eventually get overturned but mass reports can keep locking you out of your games for weekends or weeks at a time.

And on PC, a lot of the times those bans are on an individual game basis instead of having the whole entire console getting banned .

Stop hyperfixating on something you think is a good reason for it and try to wrap your head around the fact that there's more than 1 reason that people can get banned. Those are very common reasons why people are banned in games, it's not just hacking or cheating.
