I find it very hot to imagine how uncomfortable and painful it is for my character to traverse blight town and how he can't do anything about it because I am in full control and he has to endure the awful rotten stench and pain from the poison coursing trough his veins.

they get used to it, Blighttown would realistically be the place where you'd spend most of your time if you were actually in the game. once you get the rhythm down it's an insanely easy grinding zone with heaps of materials for regular and magical crafting.

Everyone just assumes that Laurentius OF THE GREAT SWAMP couldn't handle Blighttown and went hollow, but what if he actually found Quelana and she used Undead Rapport to mind control him? She's the only source of the pyromancy in the game and it's item description says it's her spell, so she clearly made it, had reason to do so, and has used it before.
What's Quelana's real angle? She claims that her sisters are suffering, but all other dialogue about them and from them suggests they are genuinely happy with their warped forms.

It's pretty clear she isn't suffering herself. Her suffering comes from the fear that the eggs have died. She's worried for the next generation of parasitic life.
When you fight Quelaag, one of her attacks includes an animation of her hugging her spider half. I'll have to go through the item descriptions again, but from what I gathered, they voluntarily joined with parasites. It wasn't something forced on them.
