The Elite Four only make sense as a group that elects the Champion, this is what happened in gen 1, BW and gen 7, games where regions without Champions finally get them.
SV fuck this up and make it so Geeta, the chairperson of Paldea's own Pokémon League, made herself the Champion and she wasn't just the one to choose her own Elite Four, she apparently strong-armed them into it and hounds her own Gym Leaders, so as a result, the in-universe characters are not fond of her, she can't even lose her title in defeat so she just has a stranglehold on the whole system.
