Japanese games were always shit and relied on stealing ideas from Western media. The only genres they were ever good at were platformers, fighting games, porn games, VNs, survival horrors and action games. Don't throw "JRPGs" my way - they are basically VNs filled with mindless grinding.

Survival horrors have been dominated by Europe in the last 15 years. If not for Kojima actions games would've been dead in the water for the last 10+ years.

So you have a very small handful of genres where Japanese still are any good at, while they've been always hilariously bad at:

There aren't that many in most routes.
But they did go way overboard in the later half of Takuji's. You have in pretty quick succession:

>Riruru
>Ayana
>Kagami
>optionally Kimika
And Senagawa's is one of the most high-effort in the whole game for some reason, for a character that's not even important.
Doesn't help that I am not a futafag and I am mad that we never got another Ayana scene. This was the most effective way to make me dislike Takuji.

The only good Japanese games I can remember releasing in the 2020s are Elden Ring, Astlibra and Black Souls 2. Silent Hill f looks pretty good though.
