This is only true now in 2025. In 2015, REmake's remaster was the impetus to the creation of Resident Evil 2 Remake. What RE2R became was something so successful it spawned its own subseries of followup remakes, which is what we have now with 3R, 4R and the upcoming 5R. So yes you can cleanly sever RE1 2002 from this subseries in 2025 because of the current climate, but the very creation of that original RE2R in the 2010s was the product of years of asking Capcom to remaster RE1 (really redo a lot of it from the groundup thanks to lost source assets + widescreen solutions like background scrolling), the subsequent success of that remaster and the fans demanding they produce an original new remake of 2 next which is how the WE DO IT meme started. Basically you can see the remakes as two separate sets.

I respectfully disagree. Not only do I dislike the sluggish survival elements of the game (which are totally deprecated now in 2025), but the story was also very milquetoast. MGS1 was a perfectly written Tom Clancy political espionage ripe for sequels, MGS2 was a revolution in video game narratives, MGS4 was like a grand party for all the major characters in the series to reunite in the style of KOF '98's "Dream Match", MGSV's story was like a Fight Club mindfuck which, though unfinished, had a shit ton of potential and is still narratively talked about to this day.

By comparison to all that 3's story was a saturday morning cartoon. Nothing that happens in 3 is interesting, the villains are two dimensional at best and the supporting characters are painfully boring to listen to. I don't know if they are doing that method they used for oblivion remaster where it runs UE on top the of the old game so you get the logic from the old game, but it's basically an asset and animation swap with new lighting and effects. Then you modernize the controls and add some features. MGS3 vibes with MGS5 controls for example.

You could do the same to MGS2, but then things like MGS5 controls make less sense for environment.

MGS1 would have to completely remade from the ground up with new levels and remade cutscenes, the only major thing that is reusable is voice audio from PS1 or twin snakes.

It could also imply they want to make metal gear solid games with naked snake instead of solid snake, but thats pure speculation

Nobody ever talks about PS1 audio quality unless it's a discussion of why twin snakes has new recordings. The show of hands of people who heard a car without knowing when to listen for it is zero. i think it's the most successful of the Big Boss games that explores his character, his motivations and properly sets up his appearance/philosophy in MG2 as well as depicting the scale of the Cold War properly. MGS3 is too much of a self contained Bondlike romp, even though PW takes place entirely in Costa Rica it really feels like a larger game with larger stakes.
