It was there leading up to launch. It was mostly from people who would buy a Nintendo console regardless of what it could or couldn't do, but the hype was there. My issue with it has always been that it's just the Switch again but a little stronger and bigger. It's a Switch Pro that they decided to call a Switch 2. That's not interesting to me and its not enough for me to want to spend $500+ on it to experience. At most, I'd consider buying it only if my current Switch decided to completely give out on me (as in it wouldn't even turn out). Even then I'd have to weigh if any of the games on the Switch 2 are worth me not just rebuying the OLED Switch.

I've said already that I knew my opinion was the minority one going in since everyone else seemingly wanted what the Switch 2 is. I just know that I didn't want it since I find it boring, which is I don't have a Switch 2 and won't be buying one any time soon.

Personally i wanted a true handheld that is pocketable and about the same power as the switch. the more system power goes up the longer the dev cycles take. Games are just as capable of being fun for hours with gamecube tier hardware as they are with switch 2 hardware, the difference is you have to wait 7 years for each release from a developer group instead of 2 or 3. It has been my assumption that a lot of the purchases were people wanting to resell their switch 2 for easy profit. I'm sure part of it is also simply that there are more people and there is a greater percentage of people gaming today than there has ever been. I think it would be interesting to see the sales numbers adjusted for market size vs previous consoles for an actual look at market saturation of consoles during their launch windows rather than looking at raw numbers.

The PSP sort of started the mentality of "have a current gen console experience on the go" as a selling point, but the Switch/Switch 2 made it mainstream and successful. They do, but I've noticed that E3 being dead means that's not a guarantee anymore. They didn't really have much of a choice in 2020, but they did have one in 2021 (the last year E3 was a thing), and then just Twitter stuff in 2022. They did have Directs the last two years, but now with Splatoon Raiders being announced out of the blue and DK getting its own Direct, it's not looking good (then again, Mario Wonder got its own Direct near its launch and they did a regular Direct after it anyway, so I hope lightning strikes twice here). the screen and battery life don't matter to me, i don't take my switch 1 out anywhere with me anyway at least not since lockdowns ended, i used to have to go into work and sit there for 5 hours a day even though we weren't actually open, i guess to appease the higher ups since they'd been paying us to sit at home while we were closed for like 6 months. anyway i doubt that's happening again so my switch 2 will remain docked and plugged into my gaming monitor, probably with a pro controller and connected to my stereo system.

To be fair, we already got a big expansion for AC. We're probably getting a new game announced this year or next year, instead. I'd love it if they would milk the current game for like 10 years, but I seriously doubt it's going to happen. That being said, maybe we'll get lucky and they'll announce another expansion this year and then a new game in like 2 or 3 years? If we get a new expansion that feels like a realistic timeline, I just doubt the second expansion.
