I remember that he'd mostly finished the original series by the time I found out about it and I spent some days watching all of it. When he got to this episode I was sold but in hindsight its a very quant build.

When I was younger though I thought this was the coolest thing ever.

Being a 97 zoomer is weird because I like most millenial things but I cant stand millenials and their faggot personalities, funko pops, and their prevalent usage of reddit. I don't relate to younger zoomers either because I can't keep up with their brain rot.

Grew up with snes all the way to xbox 360. Very grateful to have gotten to play every console that came out in those years and experienced a lot of good games. Very fond of early/mid 2000's. Can't stand most new games, on the bright side being extremely nostalgic again recently I found out a lot of old games are $1-$10 now.

I was called a millenial until I was an adult
Now I'm squarely a "zoomer" apparently ('97)
I would have been 13ish when minecraft came out, right? How the hell would a zoomer be expected to be nostalgic for that? Alternatively, why am I always labeled a zoomer? It's so dumb
I get mad every time I see the term nowadays just because it keeps getting pushed back further every time I see it. I've even seen people call people who grew up with an n64 or ps1 a zoomer.

I grew up with n64 and PSX too, it's not impossible for a zoomer to have been around these consoles. Improbable maybe since not everyone could have been fortunate enough have experienced all those consoles as a '97 zoomer

>how the hell would a zoomer be expected to be nostalgic for that
Nostalgia can happen for anything. I never felt nostalgia for Halo 4 or 5 despite grinding these games and almost getting max level, but I feel nostalgia and fond memories for the older Halos. I played a demo for Phantasy Star Universe on Xbox 360 as a kid and that game stuck with me for some unexplained reason and ended up playing the PC version with s group of friends recently and feel nostalgia for that now too. If you dont experience fun memorable moments you probably wont be nostalgic for it.

I love the highly saturated beach aesthetic of early to mid 2000s games. Something about it just felt really comforting. It was also around the time where my family moved to a new place. It was the summer, it was really warm, and I was sitting in my room playing videogames that looked just like this. We even had a small pool in the backyard, and whenever I would go swim, I'd imagine myself being at the places I explored in the games I've been playing.
Now it's summer again, and I still think about those times. It felt so different back then

Yes, and I think this dislike is being driven by both early millennials and late zoomers.
I'm a late millennial and I think all of us born in the 90s (late millennials and early zoomers) have more in common with each other than 80s and 90s millennials with each other or 90s and 00s zoomers with each other.

yes, the head admin has been Hera ever since Cleaver stepped down and she has literally zero clue how to run a game. she's probably in her 60s now, literally a grandma with the keys to the server, except you also have SEGA monetizing the fuck out of it by releasing gacha boxes every month (at least it's just for cosmetics only)

I haven't played in a whille but I heard they got a new developer a couple years ago and he did some good things, but the game has been in life support close to a decade now, the last true gasp of fresh air it had was when they opened a new server designed around PVP, and it had 400-600 people on most nights, closer to 800 for blockades - granted with multi-clients it's lower, but it was still really fun for a few months

Nope. No older brother.
My parents were both gamers though who met at a multiplayer Doom competition in college in the early 1990s.
Mother was mostly a casual Nintendo fan. Father was a PC gamer, but he was also a weeb so he played JRPGs on the PS2 with me.

The consoles weren't hand-me-downs since I got a N64 on my 3rd birthday, a Gamecube on my 4th birthday and a PS2 on my 5th birthday.
Of course since I was young and retarded I mostly just backseated or had my parents play with me and didn't really start playing games on my own until I was 6-ish.

Problem with Island was it being far too different from the source material, or, the memories people held of it.
Locking it to mobile and jacking up membership features to the max, while also lacking fundamentals like ninjas, puffles and agents was an instant death knell. That and the art style change, which wasn't bad or incompetent, but lacked the simplistic flash charm (which could be replicated just fine, look at Game Day).
Didn't help that there wasn't any option to transfer data from you legacy account. Recreating hundreds of items might've been overkill, but they could've let you use the icons as stickers or pins instead. Letting people rep the beta hat clout.

This thread reminded me of an old Call of Duty Ghost trailer parody I found on youtube that seems to be lost to the sands of time now. I remember it starting out with some funny voice "THERE ARE THOSE WHO WEAR MASKS-" and they had a bunch of people saying funny shit for each character but unfortunately can't remember most dialogue besides one dude in knight armor or something saying "I can't fucking breathe" and later near the end of the video some nerdy voice saying "if you're old enough to cause trouble you're old enough to be sodomized!" During the montage of every person in the trailer.

Is it over is the thread dead?

Thank you all for sharing and indulging in some nostalgia with me. I hope you have a wonderful day. Speaking as a American the world has gone to shit recently and might get worse IF we do go to war or if this is just fear mongering. This has been my escape to look back to the past when games and people were better and identity politics and other nonsense weren't so prevalent. Ironic that gaming was better during the other economic depression. I miss the early 2000's a lot. I even miss half the buildings in my local town being mostly brown or made of brick, tired of being surrounded by minimalist colorful buildings with corpo slop everywhere. High trust society when we had gaming kiosks in mcdonalds and nothing was locked up in walmart and most people weren't doing drugs or smoking weed 24/7.

I hope things get better for mine and your sake. Hold onto the hope that the past brings. Maybe one day we can bring it all back. God bless.

Are you kidding? Minecraft WAS mostly popular with kids since like beta, in 2011, but already had a following of kids since alpha due to youtube exposure through early e-celebs.

Microsoft bought Minecraft in 2014. Look at any Minecon footage pre-2014 and it's a fucking sea of autistic 7-12 year olds.
Youtubers were pulling in tens of millions of subscribers pre-2014 playing Minecraft and appealing to children to the point a huge chunk of Minecon was just dedicated to shilling minecraft youtube e-celebs.

Minecraft hasn't been majority millennial since like, indev/infdev and very, very early alpha.

It was kind of a blessing in the sense that you had to grow up with whatever you could get your hands on, for me it was a hand-me-down SNES, a 3DS with an r4 cart and a shitty computer that couldn't run modern stuff

Do millennials not realize that older brothers and cousins are a thing? I have intense nostalgia for "millennial" IPs, games etc. despite being younger than them. I wasn't raised in an age-segregated vacuum of "2010s kid stuff".

This, i let my zoomer cousin play minecraft on my laptop when he spent summer break with me and he got into it, and it spread amongst zoomers like wildfire.

is this the only game that stayed mainstream through more than 2 generations?
>blew up with millennials in 2009
>zoomers continued playing through the 2010's/early 20's
>gen alpha still picking this up in the mid 20's
has any other game done this? maybe roblox?
