I liked it quite a bit, between the negative edge parry that punishes you for being early instead of punishing you for being late and the aesthetic being much more colorful than the standard soulslike, the tone and structure were really novel. Much more emphasis on platforming and vertical space, and the lack of fall damage lets you explore much more freely. My main gripe is one of the best shells is amogus.

I started this yesterday and just got to the first boss. so far it's pretty good, just the fact that you can jump puts it above the other generic souslikes so far. the first boss was tough but good. the writing is very reddit, but I find the theme very interesting so I'm sticking with it

It's okay. Bland story and world. The best part of the environment is the parody brands on all the trash. The combat is fun, but unreasonably hard at the start and then too easy if your build isn't stupid.
I highly recommend changing the original button configuration. Putting the dodge roll on button release is the kind of thing you shouldn't borrow from Dark Souls.

I'd give it a weak 8/10, one of the best non-FROM souls games. My gripes would be only one preset weapon, limited scope and the cosmetic selection being split between boring and obnoxious meme/crossovers. Really like some of the bosses and wished they lived for a bit longer but my build was too strong by the end. The main menu theme reprise moment gave me chills.

I spent most of the game with the hammer mode once I got that upgrade, but the fact it consumes your shell if you hit a weakpoint is really really stupid.
