Faster paced designed around running through the level fast while dispatching enemies fast with lots of replayability to get high scores.

Looks to be closer to a "modern" 2d action game with a focus on bigger enemy healthbars and combos. Also, pure speculation but I think it might be a metroidvania, I haven't seen anything that suggest it's staged based.

Both games are doing different things but still keep the ninja core, with different but great looking artstyles. I will buy and enjoy both.

Ninja Gaiden was always about replaying stages and learning the placement of enemies. Color coded enemies are no different and the game wants you to use that knowledge to kill big and/or several groups of enemies fast.

Your "vision" of a ninja gaiden is outdated and would make for a very boring game. The old NGs are good but they still exist so there is no reason to make a new one but...not do anything new.

Ragebound looks more mechanically engaging but Shinobi just looks like fun. Former will be better for score chasing, the latter for one satisfying playthrough (unless they surprise me). Ironically I think NG4 will probably be closer to that the one satisfying playthrough side of things.

To me Shinobi can be a lot of things; Revenge, Shadow Dancer, III, 2002/Nightshade, and 3DS all do different things that are worthwhile (you can even count the GG games and X if you want). My favorite is actually 3DS but I'm probably alone there.

I liked what Ragebound was doing but having the two Hypercharge types leads to roughly "intended" enemy dispatch orders instead of letting you fully determine your highest priority targets like most other action games (2D or 3D). Granted Ragebound doesn't always lock you in rooms so you can still kind of route around it, but skipping too many enemies will hurt your Kill score.

The game lets you use health to give yourself a hypercharge though I really dont like how you have to stand still to self charge. There are some segments where the game lets you use hypercharge in several different ways to accomplish similar goals so there's some room for the player to figure out exactly how they personally want to approach the situation or figure out the best way to utilize the charges and enemies in a room.

One of the previews I saw said the game is level based but those levels are more open and can have a lot of secrets and optional areas. Nothing said about any kind of scoring system but the demo he played was in "arcade mode" which removes the story bits?

Well at least Shinobu does something interesting with the bigger enemy HP pool. With a few hits you can trigger the execution move that you can chain with more enemies. The bigger the chain, the bigger the reward. It's an interesting way to mimick the trope of a ninja flash-move that instakills a bunch of foes at once.
