>Legendary Game Developer Masahiro Sakurai says that AI could relive the stresses and long process of game development
I honestly have no thoughts on the matter but wow, to drop this bombshell on a random Sunday in June 2025 is insane

he doesnt even work anymore. he has no clue what the current legal or workplace status is. using ai can delay projects even further from the company chain bottleneck.
>>713364250 (OP)Only super retards would disagree with this. But at the same time there are other solutions such as not pissing away money on "large scale game development" which doesn't even create good games in many(most?) cases.
Return to small scale and the problem would be solved.
>>713364250 (OP)Why are games so expensive now? Maybe it would be worth exploring the cause of the problem instead of finding another temporary fix?
>>713364250 (OP)Ai is amazing
I just had gemini build me a custom discord bot
>>713364980There was even a cool Dalle Bing thread theme a while back where people used a Smash Render prompt to generate many different characters as a Smash Render
>>713364791Because gamers demanded HD graphics and better games.
>>713364250 (OP)It's the future and not using it is similar as deliberately crippling yourself. I might sympathise if the one that got laid off aren't pajeet (who use ChatGPT for everything anyways) and insufferable codemonkey/"artist" in generals.
>>713366291we're moving backwards in quality
>>713364702Only super retards would disagree with this. But at the same time there are other solutions such as not pissing away money on "small scale game development" which doesn't even create good games in many(most?) cases.
Return to tiny scale and the problem would be solved.
>>713364250 (OP)I really hate how Japan fucking EMBRACES AI. STOP, JUST STOP. Isn't art your only good thing Japan? YOU SHOULD DESPISE AI.But each and everyday, one by one, the Japanese artists I follow support A.I....
>>713364250 (OP)>Air Riders will be $80 AI slop
>>713366831AI makes good art though?
Mario Kart World already has AI billboards
you bet your ass gamedevs will cut corners and not do anything else to make up for the fact.
>>713366831>Japan likes good art>AI makes good artSeems logical to me
Now everyone can draw less and have babies more
>>713364250 (OP)Lazy and senile.
>>713364250 (OP)People on twitter are calling it Kirby AI Riders now
>>713364250 (OP)I mean, there's a solution to that. Stop making fucking open world games. Mario Kart World and BotW feel extremely soulless, and if you told me AI was involved I would believe you.
>>713364250 (OP)>AI could relive the stresses and long process of game developmentPoor AI...dude deserves a raise and a vacation
>>713367331The future is making big games but having AI make populating it with stuff easier.
>>713367102How is this ai? That is just one of the game assets with some filter, did you even played the game?
>>713364250 (OP)Old people's internet access should be restricted.
>>713366956>>713367182Good afternoon, saars.
>>713367458It's AI generated art work.
I don't have to play the game to see the truth.
>>713366831Its cause miyazaki shat on that guy who used primitive AI to produce those limbless zombie animations. They realized after that trying to get approval from your elders is impossible, so they are just going to speedrun the insult to life itself
>>713367458It's not. That anon is just a retarded indian who can't accept that some people are superior to him.
>>713367578>It's AI generated art workWhere's the proof
>>713367458what filter makes the bridge design asymmetric and adds nonsensical details?
>>713367578Its not lmao you're fucking retarded
Sakurai has been a hack for years
Why do I feel...Betrayed?
>>713367458So the bridge was designed by M.C Escher, definitely not AI. Are you sure?
>>713367741>asymmetricAre you blind? Like try to draw over the image to show the asymmetric thing you think you saw
>>713364379>he doesnt even work anymore.a game he's directing is literally releasing this year
>>713367708>>713367747I can point out the various inconsistencies on the bridge, but clearly you are not ones to accept logic.
Enjoy your garbage products. And I know you will.
>>713366304A person I had a discussion with on this topic mentioned a lot of us treat it like how older people treated the Digital Camera back in the 90s, it could even extend to how people treated Smartphones in the 2000s before they rose up in the 2010s and dominated our lives
>>713367872So you can't post proof, got it, I accept your concession.
>>713367573I'm not a poopjeet
I still can't believe people argued that this wasn't AI
>>713367869he's fully remote. may as well be a zoom cheerleader.
Even if that bridge wasn't AI, I'd fire the artist on the spot.
>>713367741The details poster are exactly the same as the bridge it's depicting, dumb brownoid.
>>713366540Love her 80s or 90s hair its a lost hair style that I wish more women still did
>>713368048lol nice concession, its just a game screenshot with a filter.
>>713367872There's not any point arguing with Nintendo fans. They spent months insisting Mario's voice in the Wonder trailer was still Martinet and sounds exactly the same and Nintendo would never replace him because muh honor etc only for Nintendo to casually admit it months later and they immediately accepted it.
It's not happening until Nintendo admits it is, at which point it doesn't matter anymore. That's how it works with them. A dev interview with Nintendo will drop where they admit it and the same people you're arguing with now will say they knew all along and it's not a big deal.
>>713366906Yup Sakurai shouldโve kept his mouth shut
Unless it was mistranslated
>>713367102Holy shit, that bridge. Nintendo were lying to us when they said they aren't using AI.
>>713364250 (OP)Hes right. AI is the future for mowing down grunt work
Here we go........ Easy ESL REEEEEEEEE JEETY JEET TRANNY ESL Replies.......... Yawn.............
>>713368171I know for a fact, it's simply humorous seeing them scatter like this to defend their games. Deflecting all feedback and criticisms as "x-consolefag" or "brown".
Their most recent insult of calling people poor is rich.
Console games are dead.
>>713367786He managed to pump out Smash 64 and Meler within the span of 2 Years
>>713367872Nevermind, I was wrong. The bridge isn't even holding up properly on the right side, sorry anon.
Games that use a.i should be half the price of current video games.
Use cheap tools I expect cheap prices.
>>713368583You know mistakes can happen even when it's a human, right? You guys would blame AI for Daisy's trophy in Melee having an eye on the back of her head if it happened nowadays.
>No human would ever think an eye should go there, it MUST have been AI!
>>713364250 (OP)while i still hope air riders succeed
i hope this is a one time thing and he goes back to more original projects
i cant support this man...
(also still hoping for moblie meteos)
>>713368703It shouldn't be anything other than free. Plagiarized slop is inherently worthless.
>>713368781Considering the landscape, it's more likely AI. Even the art style matches the soulless feel of a generated image.
>>713368303lmao samefagging won't help your case anon, that bridge isn't ai generated
>>713364250 (OP)>Paying>for AI gamesTendies would it.
>>713368975This.
If you made the game with no effort I shouldn't have to pay.
If I played in the alley as a kid and a kid tried to charge me for playing tag I'd beat the shit out of him.
>>713364250 (OP)i doubt AI is as 'controversial' in Japan so he probably didn't know saying this was gonna be big deal
and i get why he's saying it too, people have this expectation now that every smash bros game will bring back at least most characters, a lot of the levels, just as a given. but then you got to make enough new stuff or people will call it a cash grab, even if bringing over the old stuff to a new version/engine/whatever already took a fuckton of money and resources. could definitely see some benefit for smash to use AI to just port over the old characters/level (with humans going over the results to touch them up) while the main team focuses on the actual new shit
>>713369064That was my first post in the thread, retard.
>>713369165Sure it was dumbass, maybe go get some glasses first too
i still dont understand why im supposed to seethe about ai. none of the antis can say what's bad about it other than vague comments like "it's soulless! it's not real!" etc.
what he's describing is truth. all these big companies take eons working on a single game it's insane. why not speed up the process just a bit now that there's good solution available?
>>713369125Miyazaki reacted to all the AI stuff going on nowadays by saying it's an insult to humanity itself. So yeah, it is controversial in Japan too.
>>713369209Give me (you)s to all of "my" posts in one post, and I will screenshot it. Put your money where your mouth is.
>>713369274I still not seen any a.i art that looks as good as human art.
It's all very shallow looking. even stuff that looks "good" has a fakeness to it that's off putting.
>>713368781>>No human would ever think an eye should go there, it MUST have been AI!I would forgive this if it was an indie game, but this is a NINTENDO GAME
A flagship release no less.
They have an obligation to hire the best of the best. To deliver in quality.
>>713364250 (OP)>Doug Bowser: "It's expensive because you're paying for the tokens we need to use ChatGPT and Midjourney, goy!"LMAO!!!
>>713369368>implying you can't just spent 9000 hours in mspaint to edit a imagekek, you're still retarded for thinking that is ai generated.
>>713364250 (OP)AI can't fix a director's bad visual taste
it's amazing to play a game from before everything needed to be materials/tesselation/bump mapping and just see a nice high resolution texture over a flat surface and it looks beautiful
>>713367102>>713367458Its not AI, some people are just dumbfucks that don't know you can put a filter over an image
>>713364250 (OP)its called goyslop for a reason
goyim will lap any ai generated garbage
and companies will use it trying to cut the costs (firing humans yet spending more money on ai)
>>713369274Retards actually think asking someone or something to do something for you is a bad thing. It's crazy.
>>713369584I stand corrected. Thank you for being civil anon. We need more like you here.
>>713369274So if they're using AI, doesn't that mean they have to spend less on developing the game, making it cost less?
>No, it will still cost $80.So what benefits does it brings to us?
>>713367962It isn't. Monolith soft artists are skilled enough to the point that using AI slop would be counter-productive. I remember you spamming these threads and should still kys.
>>713369274You can tell it's AI by the feel of it, and it feels hollow. Mario Kart World was 100% developed with AI.
>>713369584>generate art>make model based on it
>>713364250 (OP)Super Slop Bros is releasing soon then?
>>713369908>that piece of art>skilledyou are a blind schizo
>>713369982Oh shit san francisco used AI for their bridge! Not gonna use an AI generated bridge from now on!
>>713369927Lol this doesn't even mean anything
I don't care about your feelings you feminized bitch I want the facts
>>713369274why are you posting here and not just chatting with ai?
that should give you a hint
>>713370152>He doesn't care about atmosphere in his gamesSo this is the power... of AI enablers. Literal NPC mindset.
>>713369850>So what benefits does it brings to us?This.
Games will still be bloated and cost more. AI won't help us, just make easier for companies to be lazy.
>>713370308It won't even save companies money. Most budgets are bloated by dumb marketing schemes and giving cuts to people who aren't even a developer.
>>713368337Good evening saar
NOOOO YOU CANT USE CUTTING EDGE TECHNOLOGY TO MAKE DIGITAL TOYS
>>713370308You will have no job and no opportunity while everything will be flooded with more aislop machine hallucinations and you will be happy
>>713369850you are clearly not white if you dont see the benefit
it's always either nintendo or activision. if both of those companies were erased tomorrow, the world would be a better place.
>>713364250 (OP)The solution was to make games smaller, not to bloat them with meaningless procedurally generated slop. we dont need 100 hour open work ubislop games or smash brothers #450984 with 200 character rosters
>>713364379he's been working nonstop since 1990, nowadays he usually doesn't allow himself to be credited on the stuff he works on
>>713370796hello fellow white people, arent you happy to buy AI generated games for 80$ while your jobs opportunities are reduced to min wage manual labour ^)
Does anyone else have anti-AI fatigue?
>>713364250 (OP)I hate how the more I get to know Sakurai and understand his view on things, the more I realize that he was being carried by his team most of the time.
Never meet your heroes.
>>713371040Me but only because retard zoomers call everything "ai" just because they are ignorant about everything
>>713371040no, im enjoying their tears.
>>713371069>carried by his teamWell no shit there is hundre people behind but you need control and DIRECTION and everyone does what he tells them to do. That's not easy task by any means, he need to know about every single shit that goes with the game while some employees only need to know about art, other only need to do rigging, others modeling, others textures, etc, you get me?
>>713371179Butthurt zoomer spotted lmao
>>713364250 (OP)Any game made with generative AI will be a disaster and will STILL be just as expensive if not moreso. The problem was never workers, it was always management.
By all means they are welcome to try and lose a lot of money in the process. Reveal themselves as charlatans and let the real creators fill the void.
>>713370754I find it funny how this is not sustainable in the long run. If everyone loses their jobs, there will be no one to buy the AI products, and the economy will collapse because there will only be sellers and no buyers. People think that the rich will create a closed environment where they only sell and buy from themselves, but if that were possible, they would have done it a long time ago and would not depend on the common people.
actually guys, super mario driving a small toy car is very time consuming to make. we definitely needed 20 people designing the UI and 50 community managers reading emails. it was very crucial for getting the game made and that's why the $80 price tag is justified.
>>713371040Some people on the internet complaining about AI slop is nothing compared to Silicon Valley inserting said AI slop into every fucking aspect of our lives.
It's very odd how so many of you retards who act like you're free thinkers bend over backwards to support garbage shilled by the most powerful people in the world.
>>713371428What's really funny is that this is the only scenario of society that brainlets can come up with.
>everything ends, we all go extinct>why? because I cannot consoom
Are you faggots seriously trying to say paying 80 bucks for a game made by a machine is a good thing?
I am not paying for something an Indian can shit out with ease.
>>713369274>i still dont understand That's because you're a subhuman with low cognitive resolution. Seethe all you want but it's true. Continue consuming slop.
>>713371428Unironically the end-game for tech billionaires is to create "smart cities" where corporations act as dictators and proles are used as biofuel.
And I mean unironically, I am not exaggerating, that is their vision. It's cartoon villain shit.
>>713371517I don't see 20 people for ui on the credits, care to elaborate or post proof?
>>713370796So what benefit is there to us, the consumers of a game, if the price remains the same?
>>713364250 (OP)that's fine, more gas on the accelerator
>>713370796Holy projection LMAO
>>713371040say it sister, I have anti-anti woke fatigue too, everything should be gay and AI generated, being a terminal contrarian is really interesting.
>>713364250 (OP)AI generated games will be half the price then right?
>>713371317Frankly from the sounds of it, Sakurai was always looking for the easiest way to do things which would explain why most of his IPs only really got good when the team under him got more control and was able to put more things in it. This core philosophy of his is probably why Smash 4 and Smash Ultimate felt so fucking sterile despite being one of the most hyped games when it was advertised and released.
>>713364250 (OP)Minecraft Steve should had never been in Smash.
>>713371069That's basically all idea men. Miyamoto is like this too, and he actually holds the industry back now because he's hit legendary status and teams treat his opinions like a holy Grail to not be contested with. This is even more evident when he went to oversee the Illumination movie, and stuff was in there that Miyamoto would never approve of in Japan like girlboss Peach among other things. They actually brainwashed him into thinking that's what Peach always should've been when before he would literally create stuff like a cat power up because he thought Peach would look cute in it.
https://youtu.be/-q62SLpZgTc?feature=shared
>>713364250 (OP)wow I was expecting his parasitic fans to defend him but apparently even they can't defend this.
>surely AI will fix our production issues
there's no technological solution to bad management
>>713371876You're just talking bullshit, you don't even know how they work internally, every thing you say is retarded, making quality things the easiest way has always been how to do thing efficiently.
Smash is one of the few games that do 60fps while supporting up to 8 players playing on massive scenarios with shitton of items if you enable them without suffering fps dips, that's being masterful at your craft.
>>713371876That's the only reason Kirby Air Ride exists right? Because Sakurai knew he could knock it out quickly then do something else. It was developed in less than a year. He seems like a smart businessman, and succesful too.
>>713372213Why are you acting like Sakurai personally coded that game. All he did was give directions.
>>713372125>AI makes game dev so cheap you no longer need a lot of money>indie devs can now make games on their own, without management

>>713371647>slopYou are just proving him right LMAO. Your ilk can only spout buzzwords that boil down to it's bad because.. IT JUST IS OK?!??
Now neck yourself, artcel. You're DONE.
>>713372319Are you dense or just plainly ignoring everything I post?
The director call the shots, if the director says "the game should run at 60fps above all" then the team will make it happen.
You think a good director would say something like "Yeah just do what you wish" and end up with a shitty sub 30fps game with abysmal perfomance issues?
>>713371695the benefit is the technology is developed further.
While I think AI will be a bad thing, I can't take the anti-AI people seriously. I almost want the anti-AI people to suffer because their stance against it is so blatantly self-serving while they cheered on the automation and outsourcing of jobs they didn't care about.
Fuck them.
Wow, I'm actually going to be forced out of the internet and my favorite hobby since childhood because mega corporations ran by psychopaths and satanists want to fill it all with advanced algorithms meant to hypnotize and control the masses. I knew this would happen eventually but I honestly thought it'd be a decade or more later and it'd be by the government.
>>713364250 (OP)He's right
Lefties go "AI BAD WAHHHH" but it has a ton of uses
>>713364250 (OP)There is a big difference between in-house AI generation and commercial AI generation. In the Spderverse, AI was used, but it was generated with in-house Artists
>>713372694Dead Internet theory has been true for nearly a decade now. You're slow on this.
>>713372804>There is a big difference between in-house AI generation and commercial AI generation.no there isn't
>>713371685haven't looked it up but I guarantee you that it's at least more than 1, for a division that shouldn't even exited in order to do a week of work for an entire game.
So can we get ZUN and Sakurai to talk to each other about how they like AI in Game development?
Both of these are sell outs anyway.
>>713372694I'll miss you bro...
>>713372694you could put up with people foregoing creativity and chasing trends, rampant monetization, draconian moderation, lying to your face at every turn, but when a machine draws pikachu then its too much.

>>713372818I wonder how much of 4chan is bot posts. I'm convinced that schizos like the guy people calling people Eric and others that detail threads are bots made by people who think it's funny.
>>713373003I ignored most of those things by simply not going to social media outside of here and Onion chat rooms. I don't post enough to warrant moderation attention.
The pro-AI folk do know that premade assests and coding is in most publicly available game engines now right? You've always been able to do this. This is just a corporate excuse to cut costs and fire more people.
>>713369274The seethe a simple "Why should I be upset?" post generates never ceases to surprise me.
>>713364250 (OP)>be artist>tfw starts using AI as a tool since few months ago>tfw no one notice itHeh. AI is great. You just have to know how to use it
>>713372328>games are so easy to make they are no longer worth anything>nobody bothers to make games anymore
>>713371428they will sacrifice everything for short time profit just like they killed domestic industry for cheap/unregulated chink labour and now they are 10 years behind. these people are too shortsighted
even when the lead AI pioneers and devs are openly saying about all the dangers
>>713373061Yeah you can do both too. Use of AI will naturally shrink teams and development time most likely.

>>713369274>>713364791>>713366291>>713364250 (OP)AAA workers are extremely fast, the problem is that the industry constantly discards FINISHED work to arbitrarily perfect it. They are not working on one game, they're making several games and tossing them away. As opposed to rewarding workers for their hard work, they are fired and getting replaced with AI trained on their craft. Veilguard was a live service game called Dread with a different story and combat system lifted out of Dragon's Dogma, but it was completely scrapped into a single player game.
They can keep their size and reduce development time as well, just quit tossing out finished prototypes and art. Use what you have and sell them as sequels.

I feel that we can't continue like this, but at the moment the only effective solution I can think of is generative AI. I feel that we've reached a stage where we have to change our scheme, such as by using generative AI to increase work efficiency. I think we'll enter an era where only the companies that can respond well to this change will survive.

>>713366304To me, it just takes a lot of the fun out of the creative process. As an example, say you wanted vocals for something, or a song. The do-it-yourself individual may go out into the world and find people they know or just keep tabs on the speaking voices of people they meet, or a local band, and you make something with those resources. Same way you may hire a local artist or someone you meet at a convention. Not necessarily taking the easiest route and making something with parts at your disposal. Frankly, idgaf if shit ass AAA companies use it to shit something out, but i feel it will either hurt, or greatly push away the individual creators ability to create something with their specific "DNA" so to speak ingrained in it to make it feel unique, or lived experiences that are reflected in what one creates.

>>713378056Even then, it still has massive problems with consistency, getting text to be legible, context of what the prompt was, and consistently getting anatomy of pretty much anything right.
I don't think that will completely go away even with another 3 years.
Even then majority AI work really just does a better job than the bottom percentage of of what it was trained on. In pretty much any situation where you can use AI for something like a voice, a texture, or code. Usually a human will be able to do a better job, it is indeed better when no alternative exists for a reasonable price but the quality can leave for more desired. And speaking from some experience, you can easily do as much work trying to prompt or correct the mistakes AI made as it could save you.
>>713382730wrong on all counts
>>713371040Not really compared to having almost every facet of my life influence by AI technology now.

It is rather insulting when it is HR's job to actually do that.
>>713382874I am not wrong in the slightest. Maybe time will prove what I said to be wrong in a year to a decade. But for now, this is my experience working with generative AI for game dev related things and other projects plus what I have seen developers for games that I have played actually do.

>>713383119it's about everything
>>713382730Controlnet, reigonal prompting and inpainting give users a lot more control over the composition of their images. Text on more advanced models is extremely consistent now.

>>713364250 (OP)It shouldnt even be a controversy, people have been using different tools and frameworks to automate their jobs for years. "AI" is no different, its just a buzzword right now. Half of the tools they already use could probably qualify as "ai".
Its not going away and people will get over it rather quickly.
>>713383348>reigonal promptingI wasn't aware that this was a thing. Pretty cool actually.
>>713367927This is all working on the assumption AI can bring a level playing field for programming by stealing enough internal code and letting others prompt entire games. If all that internal AAA code gets leaked and fed to LLMs then yeah of course you're going to hamstring yourself by not using what's become essentially public domain code. People will demand real art from real people though I don't think Disney or Nintendo can change that and art's never been the chokepoint for production. It's always been stacking technical features without breaking shit relying on a few people working carefully day after day exactly like how TotK got it's physics working so well. Since we don't have real AI yet programming will continue to be the chokepoint; AI art deserves the hate there are very few autists who can reliably prompt unique shit out of it. A silver lining is that prompting is going to intensely devalue photorealism in media.
