Genuine question, what the hell actually happened in the Steamworks? I get that it's been abandoned for a while by the time the game takes place, but that doesn't explain the state it's in by the time you get there. Half the facility looks like it was completely destroyed, like there was an explosion or something. Was there something in-game that explains what the deal is, did I miss something?

I don't think the plants were tied to the true lab literally at all, the game literally says that they're white because they store some kind of chemical energy, not because of determination or anything.
I agree that the game had some anticlimax in it, but not everything has to tie back around to the True Lab, c'mon now.

This is easily the craziest idea I've ever heard regarding Kanako for UTY, and I was there in that massive thread-long argument about actually going to the True Lab and saving her. This makes no fucking sense at all, how did anyone manage to get these ideas in their head while playing the game? I myself even played the game blind when I first got my hands on it, I never expected anything like this for Kanako's character.

Eh, I don't find Kanako's existence to be an issue, I just have an issue with people who make her out to be more than she was meant to be. In terms of her presence and role in UTY's story, she's basically fills the same role as Chara does in UT's story. She's an important character for the backstory of other characters, she serves as the motivation for the pacifist route's antagonist, and she has a sort of haunting presence on the narrative as a whole, but she isn't personally important as a character directly. It wouldn't have made any sense for her to actually show up directly in the story's current events, just like how it wouldn't have made any sense for Chara to show up during Asriel's boss fight in UT or something.

All things point to Kanako still being alive—mostly meta knowledge of the True Lab, but even if you ignore the game UTY is a prequel to Ceroba outright says she can feel Kanako is alive (and she can sense Clover's purity so there's merit to it being legit)—and we never get an answer to what is going on. We can assume she's goop, but the game still needs to resolve what it sets up. It doesn't, so people assume something in the story is missing and treats it as a writing mistake that the devs never intended to.

Alive, yes, but only technically. Ceroba outright states that Kanako's fallen down, which is the state a monster takes on shortly before dying. This is part of why she gave Kanako to Alphys for her experiment, which we see in-game. Based on this, and based on the events of Undertale which shouldn't be excluded since UTY is meant as a prequel to UT, we can pretty safely conclude that Kanako is just going to end up like the rest of the monsters given to Alphys' experiment, and we all know how that turned out.

IIRC she says that before leaving with Clover for the Steamworks, and we see in-game that basically everything she says to Starlo and Clover around then is just a massive lie to get Clover by themselves so she can steal their soul for Chujin's serum. Ceroba isn't a boss monster in the final version of UTY, so it's not like she can feel Kanako draining away her soul energy as she ages, she's just bullshitting there. As for detecting Clover's "purity", I'm not sure how much stock I put in that being something you can actually "feel". Sure, you can measure whether or not a soul is "pure" by seeing how much EXP and LV it has, but the only person we've seen who can actually do that reliably is Sans, and he's a special case. Plus, even is this ability isn't exclusive to Sans for whatever reason, I'm not convinced Ceroba is a good enough judge of character to be able to sense Clover's EXP and LV either. I mean, she seems basically clueless as to what happens to Starlo when you kill him in a neutral route, only abandoning you after realizing you're "impure" later on, so I'm pretty sure she's going off a vibe more than anything, like how Sans can vaguely tell how many times you've died to him based off Frisk's facial expression, but isn't able to tell after a while.

Buddy, it's a prequel game, of course there are gonna be things that only get wrapped up or continued in the next game, that's how prequels work.
Ceroba *literally* says that she's basically given up on trying to do anything for Kanako, that's why she's trying to take Clover's soul to finish Chujin's serum instead of actually heading for the lab like she initially told Clover and Starlo she would.
Kanako isn't "forgotten", she's just left as she was the last time we saw her, fallen down and in Alphys' custody. Nothing about that changes, there's no loose end to be tied up, her story is effectively resolved in the sense that we know what happens to her later down the line implicitly from her being in the True Lab as part of Alphys' experiment. That's it, that's the end of her story. If it makes you feel any better, since we know the various amalgamates are returned to their families at the end of UT's pacifist route, at least Ceroba and whatever's left of Kanako were likely reunited later on, assuming Ceroba's still alive.
Go play Undertale Red & Yellow if you really want to see a definitive resolution for Kanako's story, but it's not a problem that she doesn't have an obvious spoon-fed story conclusion in UTY.

Kanako was never meant to be important, she was simply created as a barebones "kick the dog trope" plot device because ceroba was supposed to kill her own child to stay immortal in the og version of the uty script, thus, leading her to be the plot device for something else, she was never meant to be anything more than simple fodder with her sole purpose being to make you feel things before discarding them, not different from your average background characters whenever they need to kill some characters off to raise the stakes in tv shows about surviving catastrophic events, ofc, due to the shit writing, it only made ceroba way more unlikable in the end

Darkblade and Kitsy are brother and sister, they're from the same city. Minnesota won't exist for another few millennia. They aren't part of the Puzzle Corps either. The Puzzle Corps is The Alchemist's personal force. Those two Kitsune are equal in station to The Alchemist, so they wouldn't be taking orders from him, and would have no need to work as mercenaries. If they wouldn't to fight in the war, they'd just go raise their own regiment.

As a side note, these monsters (with the possible exception of a few older boss monsters) were all born in the same country.

Darkblade is a prince (as in principality, not as in son of the king), he larps as an anime edgelord. Kitsy really is a princess that has a large following and a big media presence, but Pop idol and Vtuber personas are always an act, and Kitsy is no exception. Her cute and bubbly fox girl persona is just as put on as her brother's. The difference is that she's a much better liar than he is.
