DLAA is the best antialiasing I've ever seen, and frame gen will only improve over time. Ray tracing is proof that really what makes a game look good is how detailed the lighting is.

The game is not real life. It's a virtual world. It can become "real" in two ways.
If you are homosexual you can immerse in the game by "caring" about characters talking and emotions and other faggot shit.
If you are a normal intelligent human you immerse by being able to DO STUFF in the game that you want to do. And how does one do stuff? By inputting commands. If I move a mouse or press a buttong, I expect the action in the game to follow. If my "movement" is complete, then in the game, it should be complete as well. If I do a full "movement" then look at the screen and it takes more than 100ms for it to complete I feel disconnected. It is obvious that I am not in the game or at the very least it feels like I'm playing with lag.
But you can't understand this because you have never played games with good controls. You grew up with a controller in your hand and think that's all that gameplay has to offer and that's why you care about graphics in the way you do.

i love ut but i don't think it's the graphics' fault games are soulless nowadays, artstyle is a huge thing and every game is going for the same subset of boring visuals, we used to have cool looking cgi back then that didn't look anything like games of today, i imagine a remake of unreal 1 with a billion polygons but the exact same colors, designs and overall lighting would look really good, no color correction, extra geometry like cables or furniture, just the same but with more fidelity

Honestly I think PBR is what makes a lot of the visuals boring. It makes everything look the same because they're trying to go for realism with the materials. In comparison old games were stylized even when they were going for a "realistic" style.

I would be interested in seeing games that use modern advancements in real-time lighting but rely on older styles for the assets. I don't necessarily mean limiting the poly count but the way they made textures and shaders. I think it is very much a case of less is more.
