This criteria applies much more to movies than games I think, you could still have Manhunt today but they would never make something like Zulu or The Last Samurai without seriously changing the story beats.

On a superficial level? Sure, the skeleton would be the same. But the actual meat of it just wouldn't work nowadays.
>nobody even remembers what a Video Nasty is anymore
>the theme of hidden depravity doesn't work in an era where even the homeless own smartphones with video camera function
>modern widespread awareness and discussion of the rich and powerful engaging in horrific depravity robs the game of its punch regarding the overarching setting and conflict
>as Welcome To the Room showed, the idea of snuff films morphed into Red Rooms in the Deep Web in modern times so the thematic structure is not the same
>it wouldn't be so shocking given that, as >>713542102 pointed out, it's much more common for games to be viscerally violent and gruesome as well as deal with darker themes
>riding on the above, meta/deconstructionist narratives are dime a dozen nowadays so Manhunt would not be anywhere as impactful

And on a more minor note:
>there's an all-Latino gang made of drug-addled Satanists and another gang of fat retards/pedos
>a black man is one of the main villains

Have you not played the game? The fact that it's a GTA-like set in a school would be enough to make the retards on twitter froth at the mouth with rage, and that's not even mentioning the other various politically incorrect themes and jokes:
>Making fun of gays
>Fat shaming (Eunice being a comic relief character)
>Little people jokes
>Being able to beat up, bully & sexually harass other students
>Kissing girls to get extra health
>The missions "Paparazzi", "Miracle on Bullworth St", "Discretion Assured", "Panty Raid", amongst others
>Implying that Jimmy is going to date his teacher
>The nerd faction using a very obviously Nazi-inspired flag
That's just off the top of my head. There's probably other stuff too.

Where's all the ultra violent snuff games from indies? Is it because Steam wouldn't allow it? Or is the genre too taboo from indie devs? Puppet Combo never really gets very gorey.

Honestly I'd say emulate the OG and use the 60 fps patch. The original had better lighting and a grittier vibe that the scholarship edition changed. The extra content in that version is also kind of mediocre.

Such a weird one too.
It came out way after the hype and concern about "snuff movies". It came out before torture porn movies were all over the screens. But it came out after VHS was dead.

I still loved it though, and still do, and the sequel, if a bit less.

I barely ever used the 3D mode on my 3DS. The main draw of the 3DS games over the later entries was the different gameplay, the more serious stories and the focus on the rivalry between the two original schools allowing for character building. There's no Intimacy Mode, instead there's a more basic Photo Mode where you can dress up the girls and have them strike poses so you can take pictures.

You are going to hate rockstar even more when gta6 makes gorillion dollars and the online alone makes gorillion more.

it made so much fucking money that they cancelled everything just to keep working on gta. RDR2 was probably made as a little concession from their parent company because it obviously wasn't worth the effort when compared to how much money gta makes.

House of Velez is kind of interesting since it's so blatantly fetishistic with its gore, similar to The Citadel but in 3D. Feels like any indie willing to dedicate time into hypergore almost certainly is just into guro so it's always conventionally attractive female characters suffering from it. It puts most normal people off to the degree anyone who isn't fully committed to it just steers clear and the niche for a Manhunt style snuff indie game remains unfulfilled.

I genuinely don't get why some indie hasn't just made a knockoff.

meh, prolly for the best. i don't see the point of these ecchi games when porn/h-games are mainstream and widespread now.

It was controversial back then too. Rockstar's whole schtick was being controversial, which is what made it so funny when they came out with "Rockstar Table Tennis" out of nowhere on 360. It was a big meta joke.

P3 came out in wrong time considering how the humor and all punches it did were outdated.

I played Lula because my raunchy german pc magazines released monthly with dvds that included all kinds of free games and demos.

As far as I know, all final retail version of that had that weird scrambled porn filter over the kill scenes. Maybe you got a modded version or something.

AFAIK it was originally uncensored, the filter was added in later versions.

I sincerely don't get how this got multiple sequels. 40 minutes in I dropped the first game, uninstalled and decided not to expose myself to Borderlands any more.

Dungeon Crawlers. These days people are too stupid to actually play them. Also simulators like Sims Golf and Tycoon

Phantasmagoria - All Game Over Scenes 4-45 screenshot
>>713564536
There's an inherent creepiness to the mix of shitty early CG and FMV and that is just lost to time. The scenes in Phantasmagoria are borderline snuff film tier. Can't recreate this shit today.

Honestly no. The effects look really fake and low budget. I can understand finding it uncanny but in no way does it feel "real" to me.
