>>713555275I think what I'll do is give short, halfass answers to most people to keep the thread bumped, and will go in depth as I can possibly justify spending time on for people who can prove they voted
Again, I want better ideas to incentive voting, so if anyone has any, let me know
>>713555343Probably not. There's symbolic connections between the ballgame and combat or sacrifice, especially beheadings, which is seen in murals or reliefs around ballcourts and myths like the Popol Vuh, but as far as I have been able to research and can recall, there's no evidence of heads actually being used as balls, or even normal, career players being sacrificed via any method after winning or losing
There are records of sacrifices at ball courts via beheading for the Aztec, but who the victims were is unspecified, it being a player vs a captured soldier or someone else is speculation. That being said some ballgames may have been gladiatorial with captives being forced to play amongst the Maya, and I wouldn't be surprised if those players were sacrificed after games
>>713555396Depends on how you interpret certain sources and it may depend on which civilization. The Spanish claimed sodomy and male prostitutes could be found around say the Gulf Coast (but that could just be them making stuff up to justify conquest), and today Muxe are a thing in Zapotec communtiies (but it's unclear if it was a prehispanic concept or not), and say the Florentine Codex states claim being gay/trans/etc was severely punished via execution by the Mexica of the Aztec capital. However, the Mexica are also kind of prudes in general, and the Nahuatl passages aren't as harsh on it as the Spanish ones, potentially suggesting that how harshly it was viewed was played up to appeal to Spanish sensibilities, though it's not like the Nahuatl text is accepting of it either, it was more just being deviant rather then something you'd get killed over.
