No plans to add Z-Targeting, but there's a slight soft-lock when doing an attack and blocking to help with the aim (this really helps when playing with KB+M). About a demo, I would like to release it before the summer ends but honestly, I see myself being way behind schedule.

Red is health, blue is shield, shield absorbs hits and doubles as battery for energy weapons, it can be recharged by grazing bullets. Explosions go straight through the shield.
Motivation is like GFW, increases as enemies are killed and bullets are frozen and death takes 100% of it away, it's game over if it runs out.
Bullet freezing is one of the last things I implemented in the 2D version but wasn't really fleshed out, it consumes shield to use and one thing I'm considering is giving out a motivation gain multiplier when many bullets are frozen at once, it's primarily used as an OH SHIT button

>>713552605It can depend a lot on the person. For me I can't draw perspective at all but also can't model any organic shapes, therefor my game is some chibi HD-2D kinda thing.
But 3D has the big advantage that assets you create are inherently reusable. Once you've made one body you can animate it as you want, attach different objects to it, etc. But when you draw a person and want different pose? Reuse the outfit from character A for character B? You practically start from zero.
Animation can also be much more difficult even if you have a shared base body: You likely need to re-draw parts of your character from different angles for each frame. Even pixelart games like Dead Cells are actually 3D and just use some filters to get the pixellated look.
And one thing that I personally noticed is that the animation tools for 2D graphics just all kinda suck. Dozens of ancient programms all lacking one feature or the other, the best polished one is shady chinese program that's difficult to even download, Godot's tools make you trial and error every single movement, etc. I had to write my own tool just to have something barely usable that doesn't force to switch to Unity/Unreal.

Sprite sheets are older and much better supported by various engines. You have an individual picture for each frame you want to display and you just cycle through those. The problem is that the file size baloons pretty quickly and that making them at scale is a lot of work.
The other is bone animation. You cut your one picture into many little parts and attach these to a skeletton, and then you can rotate, scale and move these parts just like you do in 3D animation. The great part here is that you can make the animation once and then it just works for any other sprite that is drawn on the same template.
The problem here is that you need a runtime and have to hope your choice of animation software has one for your choice of engine. Work great if you're on Unity because it's the industry standard for mobile games, which is really the only place that uses 2D bone animation. If you're not, tough luck.
The chinese one is dragon bones and I can't even download it because the server times out. The industry standard is Spine, but it's proprietary and seems to lack the feature of converting to a spritesheet, which I would need for my engine.

Yesterday I finished the steam page for my WoW BG simulator. Spent all day making the necessary images that Steam requires. I couldn't come up with a good design so I just took all the characters and made a collage out of them and then slapped the game name behind them. I submitted it for review, so in 3-5 business days I should have approval, at which point I'll release the coming soon page with the playtest.
I'm fairly sure it'll do poorly as I don't think there's any demand for a tab-targeted MOBA with watered-down WoW combat, but you never know, so I might as well release it and see what happens. Plus I've worked on it for 8 years in isolation, so it'll be nice to finally get it out. Feels like I've been constipated for almost a decade and now I'm about to take a massive, satisfying shit.

There is a new weapon for the nun, the Vulcan Cannon, with piercing bullets and the highest fire rate of all guns, it's basically an OP weapon the player can unlock by making good scores in the maps I will make.
Right now, all weapons share the same effects on bullets, but I will make them more unique later.
