Playing RF5 after playing RFGOA has been... a treat I guess. The characters are a massive downgrade in general and the gameplay, while I like some aspects, is just much more stiff. But what really fucks me up is that there's actual time progression in RF5 while RFGOA genuinely feels SO SLOW. It's so weird. Maybe it's because you spend less time doing daily chores? Like I cannot peg why and it just feels like both the story pacing is too fast and the days go by too slow to the point where half the time to reach a certain date you have to use the bed anyway.

I think the clock in 5 is the same speed as GoA's, maybe even a tiny bit slower actually. It's probably just that it's faster to do chores in GoA and it has a much better fast travel system than 5 so you aren't wasting as much time moving around. Movement speed in 5 is really slow at that and the village is unnecessarily big, so doing your villager rounds in 5 takes way longer. Altogether you're spending way more time in 5 doing basic stuff compared to GoA.

I dunno, one of my points against RF5 was how fucking SLOW the clock was. Like if you had something to do at night then you may as well put down the controller for the next 15 minutes because the clock is obnoxiously slow. Especially if you woke up and needed something from a store, you'll certainly be waiting.
I don't feel the clock movement much in GoA since lacking NPC schedules there's not much to wait around for, and when there is, you can skip to noon/evening from your bed.
The ideal compromise would be to just adjust the time scale to be more reasonable like the other games though

The more you fuck with village building, the more bits and pieces you'll start to notice. Whoever was slapping this and the main game together were not particularly coordinated at all, if even on the same team. It's more scraps tossed into a pile for a couple people to make some nice arts and crafts with. For example, the Large Wooden Fence is a recipe you can learn which is a comedically oversized version of the normal Wooden Fence that's used on the barn models. But that normal sized wooden fence isn't a recipe you can unlock. Small stuff like that makes you wonder how much oversight these teams even had.

Not sure for gear but gear is also a fucking nothingburger. If a medium uses character portraits, then there's an acceptable disconnect that happens that lets one's own imagination fill in the blanks. The portraits are more of a representation of the character rather than the character themselves.
If the medium uses the exact same repeating animation for the same models while talking, then that acceptable disconnect is harder to achieve. It then becomes more jarring since you only see the character as fucking robots repeating the exact same stiff animations. It's a type of uncanny valley effect.

Animated portraits with little animation loops are also more frequently used these days, and for anime artstyles, they work much better for it. It's far easier to express uniqueness and little character quirks in 2D still.
For a lot of 3D stuff, it's still largely an end to be lazy. You can every easily see how much reused animations are shared between all characters. Makes them all less unique and if you're particularly autistic, seeing a bunch of characters move the exact same way while talking is one of those things that will bother you to no end.

RF could easily do the animated portraits route or actually make unique animations for each character model if they're sticking to strictly 3D, but we all know it probably fucking won't because this series has the budget of a shoestring and a rotten potato.

They could use Live 2D to animate the portraits for breathing patterns, but I don't think it's necessary.
The first 4 games HAD to use portraits for expression due to the top-down perspective being unable to showcase the chibi models. Same goes for any visual novel/gacha dialogue format where they plaster the portraits on a background that are facing the player.
RF5 started the shift to 3rd person perspective, but the pauses on each animation with a gray background for a bit. The models don't even mouthflap, the portraits do.

Azuma would either let you freely rotate the camera so you could view each facial expression, or its better cutscene direction would shift constantly to focus on each change. A few in particular I liked was Kurama's bonding event where Kai's model is sent flying into the sky, Fubuki's where you're hit with a snowball and then faceplanting the next frame, and Clarice in the ending where she's gushing over Woolies with Woolby in the background.

The artist for Azuma is some literally-who Atsushi Igarashi from HYDE Inc. who's only doing support artwork for RF5 and Digimon Survive, and I think the drafted character designs translated seamlessly into the models.
If we go back to Minako Iwasaki portraits, as series tradition, some intern's gonna fuck the coloring and line thickness again.

Grind your crafting levels, create better equipment. Munch on recipe breads every day while raising your crafting/cooking levels.

Abuse the game. If you give Jones a Love Potion, he remarks how the juice you fed him tastes kinda familiar. He then randomly blurts out that it kinda tastes like Fried Rice.

Don't actually expect Attackers to reliably kill anything before you. They're a meme.
Defenders are okay-ish as distraction and meat shields, but they typically have aggro draw skills, and for bosses, you want the boss to be locked on you so that you can reliably do perfect dodges and initiate stun combos.

You can't really go wrong with Healers, Buffers and Debuffers as extra utility. They certainly help more than the first two types.

Those two statements aren't mutually exclusive, but the way they phrased their respective recollection of their first meeting seems a bit too specific.
