The complete and utter peak that radiated from the compositions this chapter are beyond anything else on the others. I fucking adore the dark sanctuary motiff and the new battle theme is incredible
there are just so many fucking highlights in the OST of incredible tracks that feel like what any other compose would leave the best for last but in Chapter 4 that's just the default for the whole chapter

Chapter 4 has a LOT going for it but Chapter 3 was more fun I think?
Chapter 4 has too much padding, there's a lot of rooms that are just "I need to do exposition so the entirety of this room is going from point A to point B", the whole climbing segments (aside from the Titan one) were really not necessary.
I didn't particularly like the dark areas either, they too were fairly overused.
Chapter 3 is shorter and simpler but it gives you the fun stuff pretty much right away.
Chapter 4 has my favorite scene with our dear Noelle but Chapter 3 is just plain more fun to me.

I like how much Chapter 4 actually feels like an RPG, I hope the "silly goofy haha" stuff is permanently toned down aside from side character quirks the same way Chapter 4 did it, I loved its vibe way more. If I remember right, I got super late into Undertale, I knew it had been widely praised and it was popular but I looked at it for years and went "Ehhhhh I dunno man this looks kinda lame". Hard to say; each ones had their ups-and-downs. Maybe 4 => 2 > 3 > 1

>Chapter 1:
1 is rough around the edges, yet shows Toby + crew has stepped up their game since 2015's Undertale. The characters have good chemistry, mostly because they're not segmented like how UT did and can interact with one-another more freely. Music is good, but level design is lacking. Not surprised some players thought the game was going to be Undertale 2 cause of it.

Things start to get interesting. Level design is more lively, with great backgrounds and memorable gags. It also has more memorable characters. Great tunes here: Attack of the Killer Queen, Lost Girl, Smart Race, Now's your chance to be a..., and BIG SHOT are great.

Great music: Ruder Buster, TV World, TV Time, Raise Up Your Bat, Glowing Snow, Black Knife.
I like the NES-Zelda style of some of the boards, and I liked the minigames. But I completely understand why some players are turned off by it. Also, there are only a handful of memorable characters. Gets a bonus point for showing off the Knight so early into the game and out-of-the-blue.

Amazing music, and the lore starts REALLY picking up here. Noelle's house and seeing Kris rip the SOUL out to prevent it(and us?) from seeing the code in Dess's guitar is my favorite moment in the game. And while it has fewer new characters than 3, their impact on the story is arguably greater here.

When characters have problems in the light world, the dark world helps them get through it through abstraction and escapism
What do you do when you have a problem in the dark world then? You go deeper, a game within a game. Only by pulling out something from a deeper layer of fiction are you able to beat the Knight (is how it's intended to be, at least...) The mantle isn't a real object, it's literally an item from Kris' old game brought up into the dark world, that's why it's so powerful. It's like pulling the Master Sword out of a LoZ game. Even the game itself is called "Mantle"

Anyway Grandpa Semi was a cut character meant to be Sans and Papyrus's grandpa. I think there is still dialogue in the code referencing him -- he was supposed to explain what the orange attacks do, but Alphys kinda did his job for him in hotlands.

Prophecies always exist in stories just to subvert them. They're always vague enough that they're open to interpretation.
