Long answer: The only fighting game to release during peak COVID was Strive, which despite how shitty the tower is still has great netcode overall. This coincided with the death of Smash Ultimate because of its dogshit netcode obliterating locals. So a bunch of smashers jumped ship to the new cool looking fighter and brought their smelly unwashed autism with them. This coupled with Strive's design choices that were done to make the game much easier to play, made it very accessible to this community (they might have also hooked a few RWBYfags who were interested after babytag but that's a tiny group). So Strive for a year was seen as a baby game that a lot of oldfags lost their minds over but it wasn't degenerate yet.

Then Bridget was released and the floodgates opened. Suddenly EVERYTHING became about troonshit (this also coincided with the peak trooning of society right before the pendulum swing). Strive became the trans rights game. The freaks saw the game as giving them permission to openly engage in their degenerate perversions. To be fair to Daisuke, I don't think he quite intended it to go the way that it did, cultural barriers and all that, but what happened happened. I'd actually argue that Strive is overall a good game even if it is gutted compared to +R (I don't care about Xrd). But the community is nearly as bad as Smash. I only say nearly because I...think(?) it has calmed down a little bit since the pendulum swing.

Release 5 was worse than 6 at the same time. But where we're at now, 5 was a way better game by this point.

By this time in 5, we were on a new edition. We had MAJOR changes such as DPs becoming meterless, input delay being almost halved, throw loops removed, new vtriggers and a bunch of other shit.

I'll tell you as a competitive player who has won many tournaments, we are still playing the same fucking game as day 1 for sf6. It's the same shitty broken ass fucking game. We have had ONE (1) major balance change in 3 fucking years, which is the recent parry change (actually a great change).

The only thing that gets changed in this game is character balance, which nobody should give a fuck about. Because it's all an illusion. The system balance is fucked. The reason character balance feels good is because the game is so offense-heavy and the system mechanics are so strong that as long as you're a top 15 or so character you can win. Because anyone can touch you once and put you in a death loop after they carry you 2/3rd of the screen off any touch.

The game is complete shit. It could be the best sf of all time if they just actually tried to rebalance system mechanics but they absolutely refuse. I talk to many pros from all over the world, some of the jap ones, america, europe. literally 9/10 of the guys you would recognize think it's a bad game. The 1/10 like it because it gels with their brainless playstyle. Problem is the Japs especially will never say this publicly because it jeopardizes the money they make from sfl. Dogura almost got cancelled just for saying he thought the game was bad. They started a petition to ban him from streaming because he could discourage new players from trying the game because he criticized it.

The thing that's extra retarded is that delayed meaties already beat parries, it's a 2F window and you have to correctly parry crouch/standing

If they tap parry, they're in punish counter state by the time the delayed button hits and they eat extra damage + drive gauge damage
If they hold parry, it's the same deal as blocking

its legitimately not logistically possible. And it isnt good for the games either. If you try to rush out a sequel matching the roster count of the final update of the last game while redoing all assets, youre gonna have a very rough game visually and i see no point in scrapping all old sprites or models to make the sequel look worse than its predecessor. It would also bloat the roster anyway

Fighting games should always reuse their old sprites or models unless they can make something better. And once they hit a few dozen characters, certain characters should just be omitted from the roster.

I’ve been playing V during some downtime at work to grind out some FM to buy what Champion edition didn’t give for free, and honestly, not the worst game if only for the characters. But man is there zero personality to the entire thing, from the UI all the way to the content for the sake of content. Stages are crap, the stories are crap, the rewards for doing the slapped together modes is crap.

It’s a shame really what a waste the entire thing was.

I actually like slime fighter 6 because it makes slower characters like MARISA and Gief viable since they can actually get in and stay in. Imo it's a small price to pay for the cast be homogenized more towards offense.
