personally, I always have a different problem, especially since my friend group oftens does modded multiplayer

I have a friend like that as well. He REALLY likes open world survival crafting games and wants to play all of them with the group. And each and everytime during everyone's off hours he builds his own base and moves into it. Grinds insane amounts of resources and doesn't share. Discovers all the tech and progresses the story leaving everyone else without any discovery. It's miserable. Safe to say I'm not playing any anymore of those game with him.

lmao i did this once, my buddy came back from college when i was living with his mom, his college friends had a minecraft server and he was on me every day to join it, i hadn't played mc in years so i went on and immediately found a random place to start strip mining, then i made a monster drop grinder, an iron farm, a cobble generator and started filling caves up, put slabs all over the ground to fully stop spawns, you know basic autism shit but i did it all on the first weekend i had on the server, and they all stopped playing afterward since i had too much shit and they felt bad or something lmfao
i wasn't even really interacting with them i was just on a random corner of the map and said they could go take w/e they wanted but when they saw my place i guess they just felt like it was pointless

Used to play Minecraft with my little bro. Then he started pestering me about this Terraria, so I eventually got it for us and we played only for a few weeks before he got distracted. I kept at it alone for a little longer, preparing stuff for a boss fight the way he instructed me, but we never did pick up the game again.
He finished school, moved out, got a job, got some friends, got a real gaming PC, even got a gf. Not bad. And they said video games are bad for you. He now plays with his friends, finished Terraria with them, picked up Hell Divers, and probably some other stuff, I don't know, he doesn't talk to me anymore.

Not gonna lie, anon. If you have a friend who likes to progress fast, you should probably look up modpacks with a lot of separated avenues in terms of mods. If he tries to build tall, he can only get through one mod at a time. If he tries to build wide, he won't get super far.
Alternatively, only turn the server on for weekends (which often ends up being the best solution anyway, because then all the players don't scatter their time as much, and can all play together).

i don't think i'd ever play multiplayer with mods. mods are almost always unbalanced pieces of shit that make you self-regulate to stop from breaking the game's difficulty or progression in half. when you add multiple people to that problem, each person's efficiency over the baseline accumulates and snowballs into a total unbalances waste of time.

Because Terraria is heavily tied to progression and boss killing. The only way to prevent it is to establish a house rule that all players must be present and willing in order to summon/kill a boss. You cannot un-hard mode your world, so if one sperg speedruns WoF while everyone is away, everyone is forced to be dragged along with them.

In older minecraft versions this wasn't really an issue. You just through in some autism mods that kept them busy with side-missions while everyone progressed at their own pace.

Redstone elevators conversion mod and the flying nissan mod that shouldn't interfere because he went straight from copper to steel when the rest of us logged off.
