I just didn't like DS1 because it is fucking boring. The game is primarily about walking. Then you walk enough that you get the ability to walk less by using ziplines, ladders, and building roads. The end goal of the game is to play it as little as possible.
It looks good. It is directed well. It has interesting world building. It has good performances. It had some cringe references to Kojima's real life politics (Hillary Clinton is the President, he talks shit about "The Wall", etc) but mostly it is just the gamepaly that really ruins it. I think it shows that Kojima could legitimately make another Metal Gear game with a cast of wacky and memorable characters but he instead likes stick and rope.
