If the additional content for Forgotten Land is Switch 2 exclusive, that's exceptionally gay. Riders will be fine, but I would be surprised if it had major staying power. That being said, it'll probably mesh well with online play unless they seriously fuck it up.

Did you play by yourself when you emulated? Air Ride is really only fun with friends since the single player content isn't too great. It's probably just nostalgia, but playing City Trial with friends was one of my favorite multiplayer games when I was a kid

Planet Robobot is fantastic in my opinion, one of my favorites.

Yeah I think Return to Dreamland and Planet Robobot were the best that modern 2D Kirby could be, hence why Star Allies is kinda lame in comparison. There wasn’t much more they could do with the formula. I’m glad they decided to pivot to 3D instead of just abandoning the series

Not him but ever since Kumazaki took the helm everyone just kinda became a lore autist for the series with all the references to past games and vague implications for events in the series. Even without them side games like Dream Buffet and what not still reference stuff through customization or some other easter egg. Sakurai's not really the type to do that, not even in his own games. The original Air Ride for example at most took songs and some enemies over from some past games but you can see things like locations and plenty of songs are completely original to it.
People are just accustomed to Kirby games usually acknowledging its world even if it may not actually/currently matter to whatever's happening. Sakurai isn't particularly known to work that way and Smash Bros is generally the example used to claim he hates any Kirby stuff that he didn't have a hand in. I guess people are just kinda afraid of not having a playable Susie or something.
Some people have pointed out Green Kirby's feet became orange again when they were turned into a darker green in games after Sakurai's leave, so i guess take that small detail if you will? But like, we haven't even seen any actual gameplay yet so at the moment it's really just fearmongering

Kirby air ride is very unique, but not in a great way. It's extremely simple, almost to the point that if you just set the controller on the ground, you'll still do pretty good.
It's absolutely not a good game. People are just nostalgic because they were kids and weren't developed enough to realize they barely had any agency, and they liked city trial, which is embarassing in the face of the entire industry going towards open world game development.

Air Rides gimmick is using copy abilities. It's mostly going to be playable Kirbies. Unless they remove copy abilities and make them character specific or something like they did with Meta Knight and Dedede.

You don't really get to pick your machine in City Trial, they randomly appear on the map and you have to race to get it before the other person. Everyone would just pick the same character because of their ability kinda making it redundant. That's why I don't think there will be extra characters, there's an element of hoping that you roll for a good ability, or one you are good at using.
