Exactly. It actually makes you interact with one of that game's core mechanics. FE5 couldn't work without durability. And 6 and 7 aren't perfect but you do at least have to think about your resources in the hard modes of those games when you don't just have a shop in the prep menu and you have to get side objectives for Gold. I forgot, FE1 and 3 kinda fall in this category too, just haven't played them more than once unlike the others.

Conquest is universally considered the one with the best gameplay. It's some of the best in the series.

i played all 3 routes recently (on the fan translation) and im confused why the three versions had such different gameplay experiences on the same difficulty level. E.g. why do conquest hard enemies have special skills and killer weapons when revelations hard enemies have no skills and only lategame has different weapons than normal? This made playing the routes after each other such an unusual experience.

I'm going to second other anons that you need to player phase it or juggernaut it hard enough. If you do want to EP it, Kaze can probably be boosted to ~45 res if you haven't already exhausted all your options there.
But if you player phase it, just time your movements with a milder Iago turn and get everyone into position. Freeze staves can help.

I like Birthright in a basic kind of way on the strength of its aesthetics, character design, and classes. It's still Fates and unlike Revelation, care was put into the balance of the playable units, so take that for what it's worth to you.
I think I just feel like it was missed potential because IS was weirdly committed to this notion that casuals are too dumb to enjoy regular FE gameplay, so they had to Awakening-ify one of the routes. There are head-slap moments in the gameplay and map design, but I'd still say it's worth your time if you've literally played every FE (I have as well).
