This normally isn't a problem during a console launch, you're going to buy a game with a console like Super Mario World, SM64, Melee, etc. BotW is one of those games, but it's also on the Wii U. And after the shoddy showing that was the Wii U, asking fans to invest in a new console to play a game they can already buy without buying the console sounds like a much taller ask. If BotW was an exclusive to the Switch, sure, but it wasn't. I also understand that for people who didn't buy a Wii U, a Switch with BotW was a solid proposition.

I think of it like when NoA released Pokémon Black and White the same month they released the 3DS. It's a game that everyone with a DS can play without upgrading, playing it on a 3DS doesn't make it any better (and arguably, it makes it worse just going by the display). And more people are going to spend the money on the cheaper investment Pokémon than they are the pricey 3DS that didn't have any worthwhile exclusives at the time. It's not like the Switch with BotW where nobody had a Wii U and so they had a reason for getting the console, everyone had a DS already. It just takes away money that could go towards the system.

Reminder Switch 2 emulation isn't even vaporware but PS5 emulation is making progress.
