Good books don't make good movies. There is not a single worthwhile adaptation of Miserables, Moby-Dick, Ulysses, Lolita or Master and Margarita. Itsall about that prose, baby. McCarthy is a cheap, watered down Faulkner for retards. Adding As I Lay Dying and Sound and Fury to the list of prose too dope for Hollywood.

Ah, Blood Meridian, monsieur? That novel is the sark and chaparral of literature, the filament whereon rode the remuda of highbrow, corraled out of some destitute hacienda upon the arroyo, quirting and splurting with main and with pyrolatrous coagulate of lobated grandiloquence. Our eyes rode over the pages, monsieur, of that slatribed azotea like argonauts of suttee, juzgados of swole, bights and systoles of walleyed and tyrolean and carbolic and tectite and scurvid and querent and creosote and scapular malpais and shellalagh. We scalped, monsieur, the gantlet of its esker and led our naked bodies into the rebozos of its mennonite and siliceous fauna, wallowing in the jasper and the carnelian like archimandrites, teamsters, combers of cassinette scoria, centroids of holothurian chancre, with pizzles of enfiladed indigo panic grass in the saltbush of our vigas, true commodores of the written page, rebuses, monsieur, we were the mygale spiders too and the devonian and debouched pulque that settled on the frizzen studebakers, listening the wolves howling in the desert while we saw the judge rise out of a thicket of corbelled arches, whinstone, cairn, cholla, lemurs, femurs, leantos, moonblanched nacre, uncottered fistulas of groaning osnaburg and kelp, isomers of fluepipe and halms awap of griddle, guisado, piloncillo.

I dunno about that, man
reading about some teen beating his meat with actual meat, getting beat off by a girl and cumming in her eyes, then as an adult dating a fat but intelligent girl, only to dump her for the hot dumb bitch and going about using her to satisfy his perversions, just to then abandon her in some hotel in europe, finishing the work with a punchline which the whole book was a set up to felt like a very silly read to me

The Judge is the personification of a fight. Not war, violence, but of a struggle between wills where one will asserts itself over another and justifies its rightness from the act of forceful dominance, not agreed upon morals. He asserts that those who possess the strength and will to impose their violence upon others must do so or else it isn't the truth. The Judge kills the Man at the end of the book because the Man, despite possessing sublime talent with killing and violence, is passive and willing to live and let live, which goes against the entire assertion of the Judge, who dances because he can and will. The world has no place for dancers who refuse to dance, that would be a violation of dancing itself, so the Judge takes the Man and kills him, asserting his truth over the passive philosophy of the Man.

This is similar to my thoughts on the Judge. I personally think what he is looking for in people is a willingness to express their free will. The Judge seems to have great interest in people who might forge their own path, and those who end up doing so (such as Grannyrat and Tobin) end up with unknown fates. To me, they escaped not just the Judge but the Judge's story. We will never know for sure what happened to them because they exerted their will. Others, like Black Jackson, Glanton, and Toadvine ultimately resign themselves to fate/the Judge's story, and thus they receive definitive, on-page deaths.

The Kid/Man, however, is an anomaly. He never embraces his free will to separate from the Judge, but he likewise never embraces the Judge. He just drifts about, never deciding what he really is. Thus the Judge meets him one final time and gives him one final chance to join or reject the dance. The Man once more, does neither. Thus he gets a unique fate, in that we know it is horrible but do not see what it is.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the large hand prints only mentioned in the historical account of the Judge, not the novel? Either way, The Judge is constantly shown to be around children; playing with the native boy before snapping his neck, baiting kids with candy, even having a naked child in his tent during the Yuma raid. He's pretty explicitly the one doing the child murders/rapes.

Im reading the book again and none of the dead kids are mentioned on how they are killed. Also, its notable that the kid is noticeably absent in the descriptions of violence. The kid is never even mentioned taking any scalps. Meanwhile, the judge, scalps an Indian kid right in front of toadvine, who then puts his gun to the judges head.

The latest Viggo Mortenson one - The Dead Don't Hurt - was interesting, but it's sort of an anti-Western/epitaph of Westerns like Unforgiven.
It's a classic genre and I think you need a certain breadth of knowledge and appreciation for what really works to appreciate it. There's potential for Chinese films to do something similar given their long history of bandits out west and all that, but yeah, I'm not holding my breath.

I did a quick search it seems like some of the texts(Unveiling, Books of Sorrow, Ghost Fragment: Hellmouth) straight up reference the book so it's a clear cut case.

>One of your philosophers said, "It is not to be thought that the life of darkness is sunk in misery and lost in sorrow. There is no sorrow. For sorrow is a thing that is swallowed up in death, and death and dying are the very life of the darkness." He was a shoemaker. He was right, and it matters more than anything

>Our gods should be ours alone. Their smug freedom is an insult to me. Iโ€™d shut them all in cells.

>I want to appear in the Tower and taunt them, lo, lo, I never sleep, I dance in light and shadow, I never sleep, I will never die. I will never die. I want to ask them: if you followed your laws here, to this trembling fearful place, of what use were those laws?

I don't think we'll ever get a Blood Meridian or Judge Holden video game.

Firstly because it would essentially be "No Russian: The Video Game." Brutal violence for its own sake, mostly against innocent people more often than not.

Secondly because Judge Holden likes to get up to shit that would actually be illegal to depict in video game format in most countries.

Thirdly, he's known for giving elaborate sermons that I would not trust most video game writers to do correctly.

For example, this excerpt from Books of Sorrows
>The fate of everything is made like this, in the collision, the test of one praxis against another. This is how the world changes: one way meets a second way, and they discharge their weapons, they exchange their words and markets, they contest and in doing so they petition each other for the right to go on being something, instead of nothing. This is the universe figuring out what it should be in the end.
Is pretty much
>War is the truest form of divination. It is the testing of oneโ€™s will and the will of another within the larger will which because it binds them is therefore forced to select.

Black 47 looks interesting but I don't know if it's any good - the Irish Famine isn't too common a setting for films.
For those yet unaware Yojimbo is well worth seeing.

some moderately popular eceleb/streamer must have mentioned it, and so sufficiently large enough of his target audience decided to make it part of their personality

Several of famous youtubers like it and praised it. But if you a small grain of individuality, you will realize how generic this book seems. Conflict and violence bad, women good, men bad - same old message in modern media but depicted in an edgy, tryhard manner.

Yeah because it's about stuff happening, not wearing dresses, doing makeup, and sucking dicks.

There are almost no female characters to speak of whatsoever.

Some YouTubers mentioned Judge Holden as "the most evil literary character ever." Blood Meridian also got this reputation of being essentially "Old West Berserk" with violent and fucked up shit seemingly happening on every other page.

Not really because of the violence, it is actually pretty tame compares to MK or an average Suda 51 game. It got banned in several places because of the glorification of terrorism. Not Important triggered a city wide nuclear exlosion and the game makes it look like a total victory instead of putting in some gay message at the end like " war is le bad ".

How do you get that from what I said? There are no female characters to focus on because it's a story where events take place.

If it was a story about sipping tea and bitching about everything then there would be female characters abound, or europeans but that's redundant.
