As you know the game is open world and there are these wide, completely straight "intermission tracks before the actual tracks (which are also meh). Ofc most people just want to play normal tracks and the only way to play those online is to pick "random" instead of picking a course during the poll. Picking a course directly always has the boring intermissions while "random" for some reason doesn't and lets you play normal tracks

I don’t think intermissions deserve all the hate they get. I think they’re a lot of fun. Mainly in knockout tour. What is baffling to me, is now there’s really not much options to play a 3 lap race. Nintendo has a habit of forcing you to play how they want you to play. The clearly didn’t want you playing much 3 lap races with this update.

Another thing I don’t get is why don’t they make the super Mario kart tracks that they added to the levels as a selectable track. When people say there’s only 30 tracks, that’s completely untrue. Even if you don’t count intermissions(which I would), there’s several super Mario kart tracks baked into the world that you can’t select to race on. Just make it like 8 laps and it would be fun. They could definitely find more sections to be selectable in battle mode too.

The bigger problem with intermissions than them being straight lines is that there's zero reason to ever try to race normally on them. You get far more reward staying in the back to bag to avoid all the chaos on the end. There's no way to change that unless they suddenly try to nerf bagging and or make the item spamming less punishing and chaotic for first.
