Literally just lay down and close your eyes, insomnia isn't real. As soon as your brain stops receiving a constant feed of dopamine, it'll shut down.

Don't play anything. Read a chapter of a book and then go lie down again. If you don't fall asleep within 15 minutes, repeat.

I’ve had chronic insomnia all my life

Would often lie in bed with my eyes closed for 8 hours without falling asleep. Tried a lot of stuff. Sleep is just some elusive whale to me

Maybe you have trouble breathing lying down or sleep apnea. Try to get an appointment with an otorhinolaryngologist to check for that.

I did this but found myself with my eyes open again rather quickly. Should I intensely concentrate on keeping my eyes closed? Sounds very conducive to a good night's sleep.

i asked my doctor, he told me this and it werked on my machine
>no caffeine 12 hours before bed
>no food/sugary drinks 3 hours before
>no water 1 hour before
>set a specific "sleep time" and "wakeup time" where no matter what you sleep and wake up at those times to force yourself in to a routine
then there's also a technique you can teach yourself where you basically force each part of your body in to a resting state one by one, when i started doing it, i had to consciously do it every night for months, but now as soon as i lay down it happens automatically

Nta, but I found it had some use. I have bad sleep issues, and often times I'm tired when I don't need to be, and wide awake when I need to. But, even then, staying with your eyes closed in bed, focusing on your breathing and nothing else, and doing that during the times you need to sleep, your brain will start to adjust. Sometimes even when not feeling tired just doing this for 30 min made me doze off, other times I tried for 4 hours consecutively and still couldn't sleep. But, I was still slightly rested from doing that, and while it took some willpower trying again the next day I'd go to sleep faster.
But, can say, it's certainly not easy to do, but certainly better than browsing my phone mindlessly late into the night

Usually when I try to do that I get repeatedly awaken by hypnic jerks, honestly. You are right tho, it helps on some nights - the fact it doesn't on most other nights is what makes one an insomniac tho
Probably this regime >>713709113 is the answer

Do this but start to think about something. 'Counting sheep' is more about getting into a thought pattern that distracts you from realizing you're not tired - seriously. You'll be thinking about something and zoning out and before you know it you're asleep. You can think about anything but try to avoid stuff that'd be stressful, exciting, or anything that'd get your body going and try to focus on something deeper or complex.
