The majority of people playing these games look up guides, give up, or grind until they eventually get lucky. Most people aren't able to beat the games without assistance. There's a reason the youtube guides have millions of views. But the the "you're not a real gamer if you don't beat this" mentality is the draw. Even if you needed to use a guide, you just pretend that you didn't when you tell other people to git gud. It's a form of status signalling in gaming.
