Today is out and you're all dead? I hope because you're playing it!
What do you think so far?
Seems like an enhanced version of 1 gameplay wise.

Honestly, ive been playing since Tuesday and I am disapointed.

The game play is way better don't get me wrong, but the story, music, design, the atmosphere, it all feels like shit.

All of the small details was taken out of the game "like Sam using the bathroom, its stupid, but its removed now"

The game feels immature and hacky, like Kojima fell back into his shitty otaku habits. It's the same game but worse and he does a good job at making me dislike it.

and I am sure people are gonna be really pissed off as they play and discover the truths of the game, and the countless Sam suffered more then Snake memes.

Kojima rewrote the second game because people liked the first draft to much, and it shows, he made it worse on purpose.

I think it's standard kojima slop
>I want to make movie but no no Hollywood does not like me
>so, I make video game but as a movie
>mgs1 is praised as a great game despite having around 60 minutes of actual gameplay, the rest is backtracking, avoiding 'le hecking one enemy on le hecking radar map route' and about 4-5 hours of this shit is taken upbetween cutscenes and codec conversations and the back tracking

You support this game you support the reason AAA slop is aaa slop

Yeah, I'm surprised to see so few threads about it on here today as well. I guess a lot of people did play it early, though.
I'm not posting about it because I'm still at work. I'm starting it later this evening.

Yeah, this is the same feeling I've been getting out of the game. Gameplay is definitely an improvement from the 1st. Everything else is just Kojima being even more self-indulgent than he was before. Kojima is just like George Lucas. He needs someone to rein his ideas in to tell his story better.

I bought a PS5 Pro for this game and like it a lot more than I thought I would. I'm hoping that Physint is going to also end up releasing on this thing.
People praising the Dualsense apparently weren't blowing smoke up my ass this whole time, also. I played through the Death Stranding Director's Cut in preparation for DS2, and that controller really does add a lot more to that game than I expected it would.

Just finished it last night and enjoyed every second of it.
Easily Kojimaโ€™s most batshit insane game.
Still kinda formulating my thoughts on the story, but I really liked it nonetheless. Itโ€™s pretty different in that, instead of the slow buildup and then massive emotional release all at the very end in DS1, 2 is more of a continuous up-and-down, itโ€™s also just waaay more over-the-top in general. Though itโ€™s pretty easy to figure out certain plot points way in advance if youโ€™re paying attention (which I guess could be a pro or a con to some)
In terms of gameplay, basically every single aspect of it is improved in some way.

Took roughly 30 hours on brutal difficulty (which felt a little bit harder than the โ€˜very hardโ€™ difficulty added to the Directors Cut of DS1)

The gameplay is better, but not hugely so.
Doesn't seem as emotionally poignant and powerful as 1 so far. Nothing close to when Asylums for the feelings started playing in 1, but it's comfy deliveran fun.
I feel like Kojima's music taste is pretty crap in 2 compared to 1.

The whole game completely oozes with MGSV inspiration, in all the best ways. Like the bandit camps, both visually and gameplay wise, including how stealth works now, feels straight out of it.
Tons of cheeky little references and nods as well. Thereโ€™s even a secret theater-esque easter egg I spotted that foreshadows a major twist which was pretty awesome and hilarious once I realized.

Game has better gameplay, is more flashy in some regards, but it just feels underwhelming to some degree. The novelty is old now, and he really doesnt do much with the ideas, it doesnt go anywhere. In the long run the ending of the first game was a better way to end the series

I donโ€™t even need to prep for those and just show up empty handed and watch tar porters throw me free guns and blood bags. The only thing that is tedious is the micromanagement - it gets boring after a while, I donโ€™t want that to increase by having to hold X more times to skip more animations.

People are still playing the game.
I have heard that compared to other MGS endings, it doesn't surprise you as much. Every MGS had a big reveal in the post-credit scene, and a lot of plot twists.

I've heard some people say that the cutscenes could have been an email which is disheartening because while gameplay is important, Kojima games have always been about the story

I'm genuinely angry, the last part of the game basically was some lame nostalgic baiting to Metal Gear. But without any substance or understanding on why it was good in the first place.
What happened to the President AI? Fucker vanish after DieHardman's dance. (DieHardman is pretty much a different character in this game), the final part of the game completely ruined the experience for me. Even if the final boss was pretty good.

Only about 5 hours into the game so far, at first I was annoyed by how completely similar it was to the first, but the new mechanics are actually pretty damn good. It remains to be seen whether the story will be better, but to be honest the story in the first game fucking sucked ass and only some of the backstory was really any good. I'm most looking forward to upgrading shit and checking out the new vehicles so we'll see.

This is the standard Redditor response. The reality is that Kojima is a hack that happened to be slightly involved in a few good games that were released over 20 years ago. Those games were good because of the other people involved. Every game where he's had a significant influence has been complete slop including MGS4, MGS5, DS1 and DS2.

It's not just that he needs someone to reign him in, it's that his ideas and taste are trash.

The only exception is Dollman. and Charlie/DieHardman
why was DieHardman so zesty thought, like the fucker really danced after the big villain AI told it's goal. And the AI was so weirded it it fucked off from the game.

I always feel that people like you just have a conformation bias cause you spend too much time on /v/ and get your opinions from here and so you see literally everything as some artsy, pretentious masturbatory attempt from Kojima when you're the one looking for shit like that instead of actually engaging with the game honestly as a product that can stand on it's own. I guarantee you if you didn't know Kojima made DS you wouldn't have the same opinion. He mentions how the new Q-Pid model was designed to essentially cut off the APAS server from the rest of the world, which would basically lobotomize the AI and make it a normal tool again. But this plan was made without the knowledge that the whole thing was used as a red-herring from Higgs to find a way to trigger the Last Stranding again. Itโ€™s why the whole plot seemingly got dropped. Die-Hardmanโ€™s plan worked, but it didnโ€™t matter because Higgs never needed them

such a weird thing for the president to them gives you a big colonel AI speech only to be resolved instantly.
I'm starting to believe there's a lot of memberberry for MGS in this game which are Kojima almost mocking the players. Or at least I assume this because it would mean he lost his touch a little if not..

>MGSV was fucking shit, finished or unfinished.
>DS1 is just fucking boring and pretentious, trying so hard to be unique, at the same time.
I really couldnโ€™t disagree more with either of these reviews, and Iโ€™m a big old real deal Kojima fan whoโ€™s been playin his games for 25+ years and holds basically every MGS game but MGS4 and Peace Walker in high esteem.

I thought MGSV was spread a little thin and that the new version of MGO wasnโ€™t quite as good as 4โ€™s (the best part of that game), but I had a lot of fun with it, dug the cassette tapes and level design, etc.

Death Stranding is totally an indulgent, heavy-handed, self-serious and political sci-fantasy, but itโ€™s one of like five video games I can think of where it really did โ€œget goodโ€ for me about three or four hours in, once I unlocked the second map. Itโ€™s genuinely a good game imo, but it frontloads a lot of very long cutscenes and ends with a bit of random boss rush and like 45 minutes of cutscenes and credits.
The delivery mechanics and building roads and ziplines for other players was fun enough for me to play the story and do a lot of the more interesting side orders.
Some of the boss fights are half-baked, just like MGSV, but I still had a lot of fun and liked the story it told.

MGS5 being unfinished is pretty much a meme which got too far mixed with people misunderstanding what Kojima wanted to say.
MGO was supposed to be bigger but the team behind it, which was a different one, got a lot of troubles, external and internal, so it was a bit barebone and due to all their issues the studio ended up closing doors pretty quickly.

She can't undo the damage, and it started on its own. The full on disaster started specifically because she tried to help, which made her feel like it was unavoidable. From the beginning Amelie/Bridget was trying to find a way out for humanity but essentially gave up. The end of DS1 is Sam convincing Amelie to let humanity fuck around and try to cope with the new state of things, so she seals herself off on a beach so no one can reach her again. It's heavily implied the end is still going to happen, it's just happening slower and some of humanity might be able to survive it.

Physint won't be here until 2030, and OD also is in development, so if there's a DS3, it be in 2035 at best, and that's if Kojima doesn't work on something else.

Kojima, like George Lucas, is an unhinged retard who goes where no one else goes. 90% of the time it's bad but when it's good it's amazing. Exactly the sort of person who needs a good team to tard wrangle them. The inevitable problem with such people is that when their tard-wrangled schitzokino becomes successful they gain more independence and eventually are allowed to roam too far off leash and go full retard.
On the whole I prefer retards who sometimes make kino but sometimes make schizo to professionals who just churn out slop. The lows are lower but the highs are higher.

Neil feels like "what if Cliff COMPLETELY fuck it up?" his death isn't really a heroic stand out like Cliff, who did succeed in protecting Sam despite dying, in the long run, Neil instantly fumbles it and dies anticlimactically as none of his plans works and his girlfriend dies with him. I don't understand if Kojima realize how lame he made the character, especially considering he looks like Snake

Fighting against humans is much better, there's more enemy types, more weapons, it's really easy thought, enemies are pretty stupid with barebone AIs.
Against BT it's pretty much the same as the original game, which usually mean "it's either you love it or hate it"
You also no longer have to switch for ammunition manually and they automatically switch mode depending on what are you shooting, and using lethal ammo is now a secret option which require you to input a secret command for multiple seconds instead of selecting it like the first game.

So far it feels like a bit of an auto-correct, like you get a vehicle in Act 1 now and so far I haven't really felt like I'm sweating with these deliveries. And combat is so much easier now that stealth is pointless, you even get rubber bullets pretty much straight away.

It's Death Stranding without the soul so far, which is still a good game but there's a reason why Death Stranding was so good and it wasn't the lack of '''''qol''''' that was holding it back. And straight up, you can't just repeat the same thing twice, COVID shit was huge for the first game, the 'reunite the world. again' just doesn't hit as hard the second time

Well this game all but negates that completely, at least so far, you get a bike in the first Act and so far I haven't found many places I can't boost too. It gives you the means to deal with BTs straight away and you get non lethal guns instantly too, so the Mules aren't an issue

Oh and I haven't even mentioned the boss fights, one of the parts of DS1 I actually just didn't enjoy. They're almost exactly as tanky and boring as they were in the first game, as well as being messy as shit. The combat in DS2 is so much easier to the point of invalidating stealth but this doesn't translate to boss fights.

As a game, DS2 is better than DS1 in almost every regard. Sam moves noticeable faster making combat much snappier and the gameplay is overall more action-heavy. Accessing (quick)menus is also improved. The game feels smooth to play.

The day/night cycle adds another important element to the overall vibe that was DS1. Taking an order, traversing, clearing or avoiding bandit camps and picking up lost packages, all that while the moon shines upon your back and then as you finish up your delivery the sun comes up. This is sublime.

After 5-6 hours the one thing that could maybe turn out worse than DS1 is story but I'll have to see whether that remains true.

Yes, he's complaining about the timefall destroying all your structures. Again, just another moan about a game pulling the rug from you or having any sort of friction whatsoever, so what if it's contrived? (Not played DS1 in ages but I'm pretty sure Timefall is a threat literally because it destroys structures like that, so where is the contrivance here anyway?) And the bit where you find the ladder from the guy who died near the very start of the game was a great moment.

Timefall is like games with time limits, it's danger is mostly psychological - like your structures and things like roads do take constant damage over time, but it's pretty slow.
The map wipe is contrived in the sense that it's just that, a map wipe to make the end game part uniform for everyone and make you do things the hard way instead of you getting any sense of achievement from using your shortcuts and safe routes

I gotta stress it's not a problem for ME, I just think that's clearly what that guys take is

I just beat it. Oh my god this was absolutely fantastic. Only issue for me is that I'm having a hard time getting into the post game, and I didn't understand what the guitars were all about (very VERY cool setpiece though)
Whoever says this is a walking sim or is lacking in atmosphere has not played this game

You have been getting this satisfaction the entire game though? Like I said the game just pulls the rug from you when you felt the most comfortable and made you go back to basics. And to me it emphasized one of the best parts of DS's open world, that unlike most open world games the world here is an obstacle and justified it's expanse by giving you the freedom of choice to choose how you tackled it as opposed to finding rare collectibles or whatever. And the players helped each other overcome this obstacle the entire game, so losing that makes you feel really lonely until you find the ladder left by the NPC reminding you of the games themes of helping people. By the by, so far I have not had to build a damn thing or place a single ladder yet.

>game has system in place to stop you fast traveling to location on the ship with cargo
>can bypass this by just fast traveling closest desired location and taking out shared player cargo for location
>make constant 1 minute delivery trips for massive gains and max out your stars completely bypassing the point of the game
Honestly how the fuck did they let players do this, once you know how to do it the entire veil of the games magic is eradicated

The game punishes you by fast traveling on the ship with cargo (even though this makes no sense lore wise, people are still getting their packages) In order to bypass the score reduction you fast travel on the ship to the place closest to your destination you plan to deliver to not the destination itself, then when you arrive, check the ships shared player cargo, take all the cargo for the place you ported near then take the minute delivery trip and rinse repeat to abuse

Eg. Fast travel to the Musician, take the shared player packages from the ship on foot down to Rainbow Valley, repeat and break the core gameplay loop of the game, you can do this basically over the whole map to 5-star all the facilities relatively easily, it kinda ruins the game and people will tell you "Well don't fucking do it then", but knowing a method exists in the game that just nullifies the games entire purpose of needing to travel with packages is stupid and should be patched out

This is a hilariously stupid meme given what Kojima's last four games have been now, he quite literally took the bruising he got for MGS4 being so cinematics based so hard he virtually flipped his style, these games are extremely game play and mechanics heavy now.

That atleast requires those packages to be in the shared player storage, at this point its not like I can open the game and max out the Mechanic cause there isn't a ton of people leaving packages for him. Even if I fast travel to every single town, I don't think I'd get enough packages from ALL the shared lockers to max him out. The mid/early game areas sure. If its in the private locker, even if you teleport to anywhere other than the delivery location, its marked down in likes.
