It's literally because in the treehouse segment, there was a menu screen that showed "intermissions" as an option, but I believe this actually refers to the wait time between races in a lobby. Still, people misinterpreted this as the connecting courses.

The game came out two weeks ago and is supposed to sustain mario kart for the entirety of the Switch 2's life cycle. A lot of people who like a certain franchise will mostly play games from that franchise, this is true for many franchises.

Just telling people to play other games when you realize an update that enshittifies the entire matchmaking system is not a solution. It's not even addressing the problem that the patch is shit.

Imagine you spend 40K on a car, it completely shits itself after two weeks and the dealership says
>bro why are you so upset it's just a car? you still have your old one laying around right? just drive that

How is it "enshittifying" when it's literally just making you play the game with the features it was designed to have?

If you play online with randoms you're basically forced to play the shitty connection tracks where you only get one actual lap of the chosen course. Before you could get around it by picking random but Nintendo put out a new update to increase the chance of getting a track next to the one you just played.
The only way around it is playing premade lobbies because you're allowed to pick any track you want in those.

Because it breaks the entire point of the game.

You had entire lobbies of people all voting random specifically to avoid connected courses. It was clearly a huge problem and if it wasn't put a stop to, it would've become the established "meta" and nobody would've ever been able to play connected courses online again.

Best for Nintendo to rip the bandaid off early so the sweaties get over it sooner and people can actually play the game how it was intended.

Knockout Tour only allows you to race in specific pre-made rallies that follow the same path every time.

In regular race lobbies, you can play connected courses that don't appear in any Grand Prix or Knockout Tour.

The way things were going pre-update, there were entire courses in the game that you simply couldn't play unless you went into a private lobby or a VS race against CPUs and intentionally selected them, because the chances of actually getting a connected course in many online lobbies was so low.

Remember there is an insanely high number of connections in the game. Any two tracks which are next to each other have a connected course. Only a small number of them are included in GPs/KO Tours.

That makes no sense. If the majority of people wanted to play connected courses, then they wouldn't vote random. How is it bad if players don't have to play the kind of course they voted against? >If the majority of people wanted to play connected courses, then they wouldn't vote random. How is it bad if players don't have to play the kind of course they voted against?
Why should the majority be allowed to force the way they want to play on the minority?

This is the problem with most online games in fact. Sweatyfags dominate so hard and spend so many hours on the game that they get to dictate how everybody else can play. The most notorious example being Smash tourneyfags forcing the "no items" meme. But it happens to every game eventually. Every game ends up with an established meta and rules, and if you're a guy who just wants to have fun your own way, you're shit out of luck and have no option but to play private matches with friends who feel the same way as you.

I even remember this sort of thing happening with Mario Kart before. MKDS was unenjoyable to play online because every match was full of compfags abusing snaking. So if you couldn't keep up with those tactics, you had to accept having a sub-par experience.

I think modern Nintendo is very aware of these kinds of problems and wants to guide people towards an online experience that is more casual-friendly and party game oriented. And I find that refreshing.

Oh, dear.
You're a prescriptive linguist.
Well, if nothing else, I can at least point you in the right direction. If you actually want to change the way people speak, convincing a bunch of socially isolated people won't work. Even if you did convince anyone (statistically you won't, populations like this tends to be very resistant to attempts to leverage linguistic prestige), those changes wouldn't go anywhere.
You need to convince preteen girls to talk the way you want, if you want to actually effect change.
So go convince them. I'm sure they're very interested in your opinions on the subject.

No they didn't.

They made every adjacent track have a connected course between them because they wanted you to race on them.

If they only wanted you to race connected courses on GPs/KO Tours, then GPs/KO Tours would be the only connections in the game.

You are thinking in terms restricted solely to the diehard Mario Kart fanbase, but Nintendo are thinking in terms of 99.9% of Switch 2 owners. They want to sell this game to practically everybody who buys a Switch 2.

This is gonna get ignored by the hundreds of ragebaiters but basically before the update when you chose random you could end up in either a 3 lap race or those intermission tracks but it looks like now they fixed(?) it so if random ends up selecting a course thats connects from the last track you raced on you'll do an intermission from track a to b however you can still end up in 3 lap that track to the next keep in mind that all tracks have multiple ways to enter and leave so you're just more likely to end up getting an intermission track rather than a standard 3 lap track that you can also still get if you choose random.
as to why they did this when there's a whole mode (knockout tour) dedicated to these routes is beyond me but i do think it's annoying that now there's a higher chance of getting the intermission tracks because some are just straight ass like the koopa beach ones

It's weird seeing the notion that this is somehow the great equalizer, when it really, really isn't.
These can be optimized just as much, arguably even worse because there's even less room for counterplay. It's just that it's boring, because there's less counterplay.
This is literally the Smash argument for items, where casuals think they can beat people good at the game with items, when anyone good at the game will fucking DEMOLISH casuals with items, because the casual thinks camping with pokeballs and grabbing hammers is the peak of gameplay, while the pro does Z-drop infinite touch of death combos with random bullshit, and can parry a hammer to backthrow off a ledge. The strange belief that somehow, this choice favors the shitter is so strange, I have to wonder what talking head it came out of.

Alright imagine that you're playing a match in whatever multiplayer game of your choice.
Imagine that a gimmick of that game is that every map where you play takes place in this interconnected world to give the players something to do in a single player campaign.

Now imagine every time you want to play the main game mode in random matchmaking instead of doing 15 minutes of gameplan you instead walk over from your current stage to the next stage for 5 straight minutes and do 5 minutes of whatever gameplay you're supposed to do.

The gimmick wears off within a day and you're instead left with a gutted multiplayer experience.
