Yeah, but think about it this way. A 50$ game that says "this will end in 5 years" means the player is effectively paying $10/year, which a lot of people would find as acceptable. Fast forward 3 years later, now it's a $25/year game. Then in the last year it's a $50/year game.
While publishers could say "service may end in date+5years", it would significantly devalue the game over time and reduce the sales after the game is live for over a year or two. And because no new players are pouring it, the older players will just abandon the game too. And because there's less players now, even fewer new players would "buy" the game.
