Just bombed my first campaign. Actually won the debut and got 2nd in the race, but was outside of the top 5 in the two races I tried to get enough fans. Not angry, especially since I used a one-star uma and random cards giving her discounts to skills for style she was rated F in, but still, I wonder how I could do better.

you won't really get past career goal 4 or so without levelling up your cards. you got enough gibmes from launch to do that so it's not a problem. scout the card banner and just get the decent sr/ssr ones (mostly speed/power and stam) to whatever you can, lv20-40.

after that's it's pretty easy to clear the career goals and maybe even win the URA final on a good run. there are some horse daughters with harder or easier career goals though.

I started my first run yesterday and got up to clearing the 2nd objective (get 3000 fans), was planning on picking it back up today but got distracted by Steam sales and now I'm playing Crash Bandicoot.

Playing through it yesterday I'm surprised it didn't bother explaining what any of the stats do until the first race, or having any kind of hint system to remind you which is what so I just went balls in on Speed.

Speed's most important, but you do need a balance of some sort.
I appreciate that at least when I fuck up a race there's a hint about what stat I failed to raise, but agreed that it's pretty thin on instruction.

You actually got lucky there. You just spam Speed and Wit (wit makes your uma spam skills more often). If you have turns to spare, then go in on Stamina (how long you can manage your top speed) and Power (how fast you can accelerate to top speed)

Yeah, it's a retarded stat. It increases your minimum speed after you lose all of your stamina. But as a good trainer you should be trying to avoid running out of stamina in the first place.
