The console reveal direct served the purpose of the usual June direct, announcing all the games for later this year and early next year. So there is no need for another direct until fall when they detail games for the first half of next year. We really just don't need a direct right now, we know the games coming. Metroid, Pokemon, Donkey Kong, Tomodachi Life, Hyrule Warriors and Kirby Air Ride. I think maybe people expected this to be like the switch 1 where Nintendo dumped all their major games in the first year, but that was out of desperation due to the failure of the Wii U. They can spread it out more organically this time, with 1 or 2 huge games per year.

And it worked, switch 1 was memorable since you had a new hit almost every month, with something for everyone. Helped push sales massively since whatever game you wanted you knew was coming

Maybe, but in turn it makes them lazy and complacent, making the switch 2 launch look underwhelming in comparison. And with no word on those fan-fav series a lot of people are holding back until they get word on their fav franchises. And the longer they keep people waiting, the more likely they may decide, “maybe I don’t want a switch 2 after all”
