I'd recommend that to anyone interested in space sandbox games. It's all in first person from the cockpit of a ship, you start in a tiny one with fuck all for assets and as your wealth accumulates you end up building an empire one ship or station at a time. You can literally get hundreds of hours out of it for dirt fucking cheap, and the other X games are great too (Beyond the Frontier is old and jank though). The only thing I'd warn about it is that it's very slow paced and there's a lot of downtime where not much is happening, and fights are suitably rare unless you go looking for them in hostile space.

Northern Journey is a great experience, but you do need a bit of an ability to deal with some jank as your weapons / attacks are all very non-standard (the sling is the basic weapon and it takes some serious getting used to). Incredible world, exploration and setting though.

It's like a poor man's GTA. I'd compare it to a stale pizza, not in its best form but it's still pizza.
Some of the quips and jokes are funny, some of the characters are likeable. Though it suffers from not having as much replay value as one would like because you can't skip long dialogue sections.
The plot about an evil corporation takes itself a bit too seriously and the romance thing is awkward and tries to nudge you towards that in a stupid way being more pushy about it than BioWare would be.
The handling of the cars is definitely subpar when comparing to GTA, but they're fun to drift with.
There's a big bunch of side missions to do and exploration of every corner is fun.
Shooting feels satisfying, but some guns sound like a wet fart and seem to have little impact. Looting is all randomized and it's not a well done aspect of the game, because you're not consciously going to hunt some unique pieces but just upgrade and pick up stuff with better stats.
It's a great looking game and overall I'd call it a good game, but not great.

I really like it but people have mixed views on it, probably based on what they were expecting it to be going into it.

Think about it more like a chess puzzle. You have options based on what's on the board and need to move everything appropriately to finish out a turn without taking damage. It isn't anything like Advance Wars. Watch a short video with someone playing it to get an idea of what the gameplay is like. That said, if you like the idea that watching some gameplay provides, it is an excellent game. A lot of people who ended up being meh on it wanted something closer to FTL or a typical tactics game.

I have a love/hate relationship with that game. It's kino for hardcore runs and the build variety is pretty good, but it's sluggish no matter what, the first couple of acts suck and the lategame scaling is bullshit. Enemies level scale with you and once you pass 80 or so they scale like crazy to attempt to remain relevant to characters with god tier items.
I still have 600 hours in it because it does the most good stuff out of any of its subgenre, but goddamn if there aren't dozens of improvements that could be made to it.
