Switch 2 uses a 60Hz LCD screen so playing games in handheld mode isn't going to be the same experience as playing on your 200Hz ricer monitor. Will you notice it? Probably not, hell if you're on /v/ you're probably never going to use handheld mode to begin with.

And that's why Nintendo went with the screen it did. That guy who did the teardown said it's the same screen used in Samsung Galaxy Tabs, so Nintendo could activate overdrive to make the screen have 1ms of latency but then it'd drive the battery down because the Switch 2 is meant to play video games.

If they went with a decent mini-LED or OLED with proper high refresh and low latency (like what even mid-range phones have now), you're looking at maybe an extra $50~$80 BOM cost minimum. And that doesn’t even factor in thermals or power draw, so they’d also have to beef up the battery, bumping the cost again and maybe pushing MSRP past $500. Nintendo’s allergic to that territory - they want it sub-$400 to stay family-friendly.

The third party sales are fine. But also third parties don't really have a choice. At least for the Japanese third parties I care about, the Switch 2 is the only game in town. PS5's doing even worse and the Xbox killed their own third party support forever with Game Pass. So the only winning move is target the Switch 2 hardware spec and also put your shit on PC (and sure, PS5) where it'll run great on a toaster, and then just make a good game and you rake in the money.
