>>713863198It's set in the near future, all the planes in the game are extremely capable and have extreme thrust, except for the bomber. You can take off in like 100m, half the players online just take off straight from the hanger and don't bother with the runway.
Weapon damage is fairly realistic, bombs generally won't destroy more than the single vehicle that they hit. All weapons except for your main cannon are guided though.
You are limited to carrying a fairly realistic amount of weapons on your plane, you have to land to rearm.
Missiles can't be dodged by just pulling back on your stick and flying in a loop. You need to flare, notch and jam, or run the missile out of energy. Your missile warning system very helpfully tells you what kind of missiles are heading towards you so that you know what you need to do to defeat them. Oh, and you can also just shoot down incoming missiles with your own, that's always an option.
Damage to different parts of the aircraft are simulated, as opposed to the planes just exploding after being damaged to 0hp. Also limited damage modeling on ships, at the very least you can knock out their radar without sinking the whole ship.
Weapon ranges are pretty far. The smaller map is like 50km across, the shorter range radar missiles can basically reach across the whole map if launched from high altitude. The air launched ballistic missiles in the game have a max range of over 500km, the larger island map is only like 150km across or something.
You black out for a few seconds if you turn too hard.
Anyway, it's somewhere between arcade and sim, but the planes it "simulates" are fictional future planes, and the future tech makes it feel more arcadey.
