You're full of shit. Mario Kart World is by far the most and balanced of Mario Kart games. Even an old fart casual like me can sometime win. I played last night, after getting bombed out in top 20 in two knockout tours I came 1st on third attempt, by getting out in front and staying front, with my wife and kids hollering and cheering and hugging each other the whole time as I tore into the final stretch.

I suddenly understand the problem with Mario Kart World. All the good players had their rank go up super quick and are now almost always only paired with other good players. This means the casuals will stay low in the rankings and thus be paired with other casuals. Since the casuals aren't dealing with good players, they can actually have fun. The good players, conversely, are sweating their asses off. That's why casuals love World and the good players hate it now. It's another example of skill based matchmaking.

It'll treat a casual player relatively fairly and literally cheat to knock a good player out of first at the worst times. World is designed from the ground up to give casuals a good time and give good players hell. But in reality, the casual players who aren't going out of their way to post about it online are having the time of their lives, especially now that the good players are out of the picture.

Remember that period when the game was new and everyone loved it? Thanks to all the new tracks and tricks, everyone was on a relatively equal playing ground. As soon as players got used to it and graduated to the rank of "good player," it was all downhill for them.

The reason it works on intermissions is because there's literally nothing happening on those tracks so no one can break ahead. The only way to get ahead is via boosting over the huge tracts of offroad, which you do with mushrooms you get in lower places. This results in everyone being super bunched up for way longer, making a breakaway at the end super potent since you'll be passing everyone instead of just a few people. The most consistent way to win is to grab a few mushrooms in a lower place, hold onto them in a lower position since you won't lose them, then boost your way to the front right near the end where the other players won't have the items to stop you.

I watched this video and I have to ask: Why the fuck would you spend 500 buckaroos or more for this experience when you can just play Mario Kart 8? What is so much better in this?

You retard, the reason Nintendo games can sell like 10million+ is because they add reasons for people of different skill, ages and taste to play their games. There might be elements some people hate that other people love.

If there's some kid who wants to drive around in free roam then having it in the game is better than not because that experience could lead to that kid wanting to play more Nintendo gams. I think the reason people online tend to be out of touch is because they think that 100% of the game should be geared for only them and they throw a bitch fit the moment a feature they don't like is added or the game doesn't work 100% how they'd prefer. Ignorant of the case there could be a million people who do like it for every hundred that don't.

Its why Nintendo can do so well, have such a strong legacy but very rarely win GOTY. Because their games are meant to be enjoyed by many, not made to appeal to the few who can give them an award for meeting all their preferences.

Only if the track allows it. Plenty of tracks are completely front run favored and bagging is practically impossible to get a top 3 spot because of how the short cuts are. In 8 only cheese land and dry dry deserts had such a gigantic bagging bias and for the same reason the intermission tracks do, gigantic stretches of off road that frontrunners cant even glance at but speed items can ignore. Other tracks had no such cuts or they were still accessible to first so they could keep a lead making bagging harder, needing more forethought around shit like lightning that you cant always control.

Just a more even distribution or letting you race the full course afterwards would go along way. I would not care at all if it was just a race to the track and then a race through the track. The biggest problem with intermissions right now is just that they are 90% of the game. You have a mode that is all intermission and then another mode that is 2/3 intermission. The good part of the intermission is the change of pace and the really nice visual transition between areas that make you appreciate the world and the tracks. However, without the contrast with the regular courses, that intended change of pace just becomes the pace of the game and loses its point. If they were willing to put in extra effort on checkpoint, there are also interesting areas around the courses that aren't just gently winding highways they could route you through.

It may never happen without government regulation. The entire premises of game design have been inverted to optimize profit and appeal to the lowest common denominator. Old school arcade games were designed to give you as much gameplay in as short amount a time as possible to kick you off. It's possible that in 5 years with the widespread use of quantum cloud computing you could see a return to the arcade game design model. Got drunk last night and played about 25 races online to see what all the update rage was about.
Out of 25 races I got to play a proper 3 lap race 4 times.
Jesus fucking CHRIST this sucks my asshole. Nintendo saw that people found a way to avoid the uninspired, boring as fuck straight lines and then removed the only way to have fun in this game. What a bunch of absolute cunts.
It is completely insane that there is literally NO WAY to play regular, non-openworld races in this game.
